Press Release: We are honoured to announce that Sid Haig will be accepting the Maria Honorifica award at the 43rd annual Sitges Film Festival Established in 1967, the Sitges International Film Festival is the #1 Film Festival for the “Fantastic” genre – which includes horror, sci-fi, fantasy and thrillers – and counts more than 100,000 visitors each year. The festival screens approximately 200 films over 10 days and is regularly attended by such top-shelf talent as Sir Anthony Hopkins, Terry Gilliam, Quentin Tarantino, David Cronenberg, Malcolm McDowell and Takashi Miike.
Sid will be accepting the Maria Honorifica, which honours those with an outstanding career in the Fantastic genre, on Monday, October 11th in an already sold-out midnight show being attended by a crowd of 1,400 and televised across Europe.
Sid is ecstatic to be receiving this coveted award, saying, “After receiving the Eyegore Award for Lifetime Achievement I was flattered and amazed. Now to be further honored by being awarded the Maria Honorifica by The SitgesFilmFestival has just got my head reeling. I have to keep reminding myself to keep my feet on the ground!”
The Maria Honorifica itself is a figure of the legendary robot from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, Maria, and has previously been awarded to such greats as Roger Corman, Caroline Munro, Larry Fessenden and Linda Harrison.”
