‘Escape From New York’ Remake Seems To Be Gaining Some Steam

With the whole remake thing having been going on for what – a decade now – hell, probably longer than that – it’s hard to believe that they haven’t gotten around to remaking this one yet.  It’s been rumored for quite some time but no solid news has been tossed around, till now.

Starlog Magazine (yeah, that Starlog Magazine) is reporting that some casting may be going on.  Silver Pictures, which is headed by Joel Silver – are the folks behind this reimaging and according to Starlog they maybe be looking at this trio of actors to step into Snake’s boots.  You ready for this list?

Charlie Hunnam from ‘Pacific Rim’ and ‘Son’s of Anarchy’
Jon Bernthal – Rick’s ex best friend from ‘The Walking Dead’
Dan Stevens  he’s in the upcoming ‘The Guest

For my money, if I had to choose one – I can kind of see Jon Bernthal, maybe?  If I’m being honest I really don’t see anyone but Kurt Russell in that roll but of course that won’t stop them from making this so – what do you think, any of these guys fit the bill?
The article at Starlog goes on to say that this version will be imagined as a trilogy and will feature a “team dynamic” and while Snake will still lead the team – new characters will play important roles.
Here’s what the article states:
“Plissken’s team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery.”
So, what do you make of all this?  Great idea or what?
