WALKING DEAD star Dallas Roberts will host FANGORIA’s free screening of his nightmarish fact-based horror film SHADOW PEOPLE this coming Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m. This special showing will be held at New York City’s Cinema Village (22 East 12th Street, off University Place). Besides playing Governor confidant Milton Mamet on THE WALKING DEAD, Roberts has also appeared in the genre films THE GREY, JOSHUA, TELL TALE and the SISTERS remake. In SHADOW PEOPLE, the actor plays a troubled DJ investigating dangerous nocturnal beings. Just announced: SHADOW PEOPLE writer/director Matthew Arnold will also attend the event and host a Q&A after the movie.
The Fango screening of SHADOW PEOPLE will be a free show; to obtain tickets, send an e-mail to fangoriascreening@gmail.com. You must list “SHADOW PEOPLE” as your subject line and provide us your full name. Offer is good for you and one guest. Names will be checked at the door. Offer is first come, first served, and we will confirm your RSVP. Seating is not guaranteed, however. This advance preview is presented by our pals at Anchor Bay Films, who release SHADOW PEOPLE on disc March 19.
Co-starring Alison Eastwood, SHADOW PEOPLE is based on a true story about small-town radio personality Charlie Crowe (Roberts), who unravels a conspiracy about encounters with mysterious beings. These “Shadow People” have been the cause of hundreds of unexplained deaths. He encounters CDC Epidemic Intelligence Agent Sophie Lancombe (Eastwood), whose investigations entwine her with Charlie’s own discoveries, leading them both into a dark world and a decades old cover-up.
SHADOW PEOPLE explores the actual historical evidence of SUNDS (Sudden Unexpected Death Syndrome) and the real phenomenon of an inverse placebo effect, where the mind can actually kill the body through false belief. The film is backed up by real archival footage of a suspected outbreak of SUNDS in rural Kentucky, and takes the found-footage genre to a new level by intercutting Roberts’ scenes with actual interviews of the real-life participants, local news footage and radio clips from the event.
Watch for a Roberts interview on this site soon, and come see the actor live this coming Monday at the Fango screening! For details on our April 1 NYC screening of STITCHES, go to FANGORIA.com
