Horror Gossip: 03.29.2009

Introduction:
This is my first article. I don’t want to put anything gay or inspirational. I am just here to gossip about the news we have covered over the past week and deliver my thoughts on the subject so here goes…

Overview:
Firstly, lets go over all the horrid remakes and sequels we have discussed. Stephen Norrington, the guy behind what may literally be the worst comic book movie EVER (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), to direct the remake of The Crow. I bet Brandon Lee is rolling in his grave. I am boycotting this film. I don’t care. How dare you! I still cannot believe they made a remake of Halloween II. Apparently actor Bill Moseley has been recast as “Uncle Seymour Coffins” and has been replaced by a currently unnamed individual. He reportedly had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

Here’s what writer/director Rob Zombie had to say via his Myspace: “Haddonfield’s Channel 18 has replaced the old Seymour Coffins with a new and improved Seymour Coffins. The new UNCLE SEYMOUR COFFINS will be hosting the 4th Annual Phantom Jam!” Whatever you say Rob. *vomits* The first screen cap has been featured all over the net FYI. Now lets move onto all this drama with Evil Dead 4/Evil Dead Remake. Sam Raimi has quoted, “I have talked with my partners about having a young director come in and remake Evil Dead,” “I think if you had a new director using the full power of 35mm and 5.1 sound, you could really make a pretty socko presentation.

It was always meant for the big screen, but never really seen on the big screen” Bruce Campbell however was hesitant about signing up for the fourth installment claiming that the fan backlash to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull should give everyone involved pause for thought. I agree with Campbell. Then I felt I had a sharp wooden stake going through my heart when I found out there’s going to be a Lost Boys 3. Bloody Disgusting announced that Warners has given the go-ahead for another direct-to-DVD sequel, and have hired Evan Charnov (Fearless) to pen the script.

According to BD, Edgar Frog (aka Corey Feldman) will be back, along with the lesser known Frog, Jamison Newlander. So instead of trying for a re-tread of the first film like last time, Charnov’s script is going to focus on the Frog brothers (and why, oh why, didn’t they just do this in the first place?) But the Frog brothers will probably be the only familiar faces coming back for another go round, because I highly doubt that anyone will be knocking on Corey Haim’s door after what happened the last time. There is no release date for Lost Boys 3 so far, but let’s be honest with ourselves — this kind of straight-to-DVD flick can probably be knocked out in a weekend. I want to pretend Lost Boys two was a bad dream.

Lets talk about some good news shall we? Shawnee Smith will be featured in Saw 6. I was sad that they had killed her character because I wanted more of Amanda. Shawnee Smith is one of my favorite scream queens. J

OHN RAYBIN FROM OFFICIALSAW.COM AND COLLECTSAW.COM HAS THESE EXCLUSIVE COMMENTS FROM “SAW” PRODUCER MARK BURG: “SHAWNEE SMITH (AMANDA) IS IN SAW VI. THERE ARE SEVERAL NEW CHARACTERS. ALSO, THIS MOVIE IS A LOT MORE VIOLENT THAN THE PREVIOUS V. LASTLY, WE HAVE TRAPS THAT PIT VICTIMS AGAINST EACH OTHER LIKE THE OPENING OF SAW V. COULD BE THE BEST SCRIPT YET!” STAY TUNED FOR MORE EXCLUSIVE NEWS FROM JOHN RAYBIN ON OFFICIALSAW.COM…JOHN WILL BE REPORTING EXCLUSIVE DAILY NEWS FROM THE SET OF SAW VI. THE MOVIE BEGINS FILMING IN TORONTO, CANADA ON MARCH 30.

While we are on the subject of this awesome woman, lets go straight to thoughts about the ‘maybe’ season two of Scream Queens. When Shawnee Smith was asked if there’s going to be a season 2 of Scream Queens on VH1 she had said, “I don’t know. We need to get the word out a little bit more. Everyone loves the show, from the network to the people who made it, but we need to get the word out a little bit more. I’m sure everyone would love to do another season. And of course there’s also Smith and Pyle. Missi Pyle and I made a record. It’s been out digitally and we just got the first hard copies out. And we’re working on a Smith and Pyle show.”

I also have good news on believe it or not, a sequel/prequel, to Slime City. It’s called Slime City Massacre. Many people for some reason get Slime City and Street Trash confused but Slime City is basically about a young man that moves into a new apartment where his neighbors make a concoction that they call wine. It’s not wine. It turns him into a deformed monster. The movie gets ickier and gooier as it goes on. Well now it appears that we have a sequel. After 20 years director Gregory Lamberson is returning to direct the film. Production will start in July.

Popular actress and FANGORIA Radio hostess Debbie Rochon, award-winning horror author Kealan Patrick Burke, and newcomer Jennifer Bihl (who appeared in Lamberson’s short film GRUESOME) join SLIME CITY stars Robert C. Sabin and Mary Bogle for this new chapter in the slime saga. Other parts will be played by scream queen Brooke Lewis, erotic/horror author and tarot card reader Sephera Giron, and Tommy Sweeney, who starred in Lamberson’s UNDYING LOVE and co-starred in NAKED FEAR. The film will utilize old school latex special make-up effects and cutting edge digital work. Special make-up effects will be handled by Craig Lindberg in New York City and Zombified Studios (Rod Durick, Arick Szymecki, John Rena, Matt Patterson) in Buffalo, with R.J. Sevin, one of the founders of Creeping Hemlock Press, creating the digital effects. It’s said to be released March 17th, 2010.

There are some good horror television series out there as of now. True Blood has to be my favorite. I just love how the main character vampire, ‘Bill’ they all talk about and call, ‘Vampire Bill.’ As if it’s normal. Well Vampire Bill said, haha. Well anyway it’s a great show and the latest gossip is from an interview Carrie Preston, who plays the man-crazy redheaded bar waitress Arlene Fowler, she told SCI FI Wire that the show will delve deeper into various supernatural phenomena when it returns in the summer with 12 new episodes. She also said things are going to get a little crazy on the show.

There have been a lot of Supernatural clips floating through the net. Supernatural is a show about brothers who hunt demons and other figures of the paranormal. The series, which is filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada, debuted on September 13, 2005 on The WB, and is now part of The CW’s lineup. The second season premiered on September 28, 2006, and the third on October 4, 2007, though its run was interrupted by the writers’ strike. Supernatural returned for a fourth season on September 18, 2008. The series was renewed for a fifth season on February 24, 2009. On March 22nd Times Online featured it in the Top 50 TV shows worth staying in for. Season 4 came back from its break these past two weeks to hit its audience with two very powerful and revealing new episodes: Death Takes a Holiday and On the Head of a Pin

I try to update as much news as possible when it comes to the horror comic books. One that I enjoy reading is Buffy the Vampire Slayer of course but this issue that just came out had me a little pissed off. Issue 22 features popular BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER television show alumni, Steven S. DeKnight on the writing duties, and he jumps into the mix with a bag of stuffed animals.

Close to battling the fury of cute dog movies, DeKnight creates a villain out of a Happy Cat, adding fangs and a cape to the popular cute kitty fad, and most likely, a chance to buy it online in the near future to add to your Buffy collection. Aside from that, his story centers upon the two lesbian slayers that seem to have a thing for straight and strong chicas like The Buffster. Kennedy returns to “evaluate” Satsu on her slayer duties, but instead, reveals her mission is more along the lines of letting Buffy “stay straight” and some crap about cinnamon lip gloss. I’m not sensitive enough to understand that kind of stuff, but I do get the gist of what is said. Some people are the way they are, even if they do dip their toes into a sea of sugar and peppermint leaves, or walk the fire pit. People only change when they want to, and for Buffy, well, she’s not a lesbo. She’s a les-no.

My Thoughts:
Words cannot express how upset I am about this Crow Remake that’s complete BS! Theyre taking a really good movie that’s less than 15 years old, had a great cast, AWESOME soundtrack, and that still holds up pretty well-they’re remaking it. I’m not going to rant about how pissed I am at all the remakes because I do that everytime. And don’t even get me started on Lost Boys 3. Lets see, you know I am uber excited about Saw 6 since Smith is coming back. I would like there to be another season of Scream Queens.

To be honest, I didn’t watch the full first season because I had too much going on but it’s more interesting than a lot of the horrid ideas coming out of reality television. Like Paris HIlton’s BFF and how at the season finale she runs off the set crying saying she just cannot chose between the two. What a flocking drama queen. I don’t understand how people can say everything in the horror genre is just stupid yet they’re watching that thinking it’s a damn good show. WTF? I’m not liking the direction the Buffy comic is going. True, I watched every episode of the series and sometimes it could get a little corny. Well so were 80s horror films sweetheart. What of it? But this issue I mentioned above has me puzzled. When bunnies attack is where I draw the line. I need to actually watch Supernatural. I have not seen one episode because I thought it was for 17 year olds. I was forced into watching Battlestar Gallactica’s season finale last Friday and felt like some of my IQ points dropped. True Blood is the one for me. Well that’s all I have to say about that. Rebekah signing out.

Oh before I go. You should check out my recent reviews and show them some love or even if you hate them. It pumps up my ego when people try to talk smack about my writing or criticism. Feel free. So far I have written reviews on; Phantom of the Paradise, Last House on the Left (original), Curtains, Night of the Demons, Ginger Snaps, The Witchery, and The Beast in Heat, and Faceless.

Upcoming reviews by me would be; Junk, some of the 8 films to die for, Phenomena, Xtro, and Student Bodies. I know I am too old school. Get over it, I’m all about the old school.
