Being a horror fan here and now is a strange thing. We are still the outsiders of genre fans to a certain extent. While most genre fans will have a few horror films in their top ten/twenty lists (yeah, it’s okay, we’ve all got them), the dedicated horror fan will have hundreds of top titles, depending on any number of factors. The same can be said for science fiction and fantasy, martial arts films or … Continue reading
And scene! The premiere season of the CW networkâs âVampire Diariesâ came to a close this past Thursday. According to a press release from the CW, 3.48 million fans witnessed the Mystic Fallâs gang come thisclose to biting the dust.
Needless to say Kevin Williamson and co. are smiling from ear to ear. They not only delivered plenty of fans to their home network … Continue reading
Ever wonder what goes on in the mind of a serial killer? What could they possibly do to occupy their time when they are not killing? Meet Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall), who works as the Miami Metro Police Department blood spatter analyst. Dexter is an average guy, dealing with issues in everyday life like girl problems, family issues and where to hide the bodies of the people he murders. Wait…what? While Dexter … Continue reading
Before I get into my rant, I should say that I do enjoy the series and am pretty dedicated to watching every episode. Season one was alot of fun and Season 2 is looking to be “just” as entertaining. So what gives? Those who are less familiar with the term “scream queen” should know that it’s used more in the past tense than the present tense. Meaning that to be a “scream queen” you have … Continue reading
FEAR can be broken down into an acronym, False Evidence Appearing Real. This is something any and all motivation speakers will tell you when they want you to break through into a new comfort … Continue reading
(BECAUSE TOP 20 ISNT ENOUGH!!)
(Not in any particular order)
Hey there horror fans, it’s that time of the year when we all reflect on what and where the previous years have brought us.. You’ll read alot of lists this time of year, though that doesn’t mean that they are the final say but rather an individual’s perspective. We wanted to give you a chance to hear us out of what we thought were … Continue reading
The popular thing to do these days is a little something called a âmash-upâ. The popularity has risen thanks to the pulp-culture phenomenon known as âShow Choirâ. With music it is easy. With movies? Not so much. But it can be funny as hell. And we here at HorrorNews love lists! So I present to you the horror movie mash-up! This is a top 10 list of movies, including at least one horror, that would … Continue reading
Piranha 3D opens on August 20th, and it is terribly exciting. The trailers are a bit misleading. While they do not make the film look bad, they do not show why I am so excited. Someone leaked 9 minutes of nudity laden, blood stained, cheese filled footage of the film and let me tell you, this thing looks horrible good. This is by no means an aesthetic masterpiece in the vein of The Texas Chainsaw … Continue reading
Do you know what happens when someone watches horror films for years on end? They turn into me. Hello, I am the product of a life spent watching gore and innards flying in all directions, and contrary to the beliefs of a great many people who would call me the spawn of the devil, or a serial killer in waiting, I am actually a (pretty) well rounded member of civilized society. Granted, I am probably … Continue reading
Thereâs been a lot of talk lately of the world coming to an end. Scientists are quickly finding ways to debunk that statement as believers are readying themselves for it. Regardless of what or who you believe, there are no shortages of creative theories on how our home will meet its doom.
The most obvious way (and most popular) is simply that earth will give way to natural disasters. Could this be true? … Continue reading
Every horror fan is familiar with the typical slasher film plot. A group of teens get into mischief and invoke the rage of some psycho killer. Most of them end up brutally dismembered with the exception of the virginal hero/heroine.
Yes, we are very much âin the knowâ about this particular story but the question that arises: why are teens often the victims of these crazed killers? Itâs almost like these psychos have a … Continue reading
Earlier this week I received a somewhat anonymous email from someone regarding my Kickstarter campaign for my series Death’s Doormaking some fairly interesting accusations and suggestions. I decided to correct some of the copious spelling errors he made in the interest of readability, other than that, here it is word for word.
âYou must be aware that your God will reject your soul if you continue to support zombies. God will not save … Continue reading
What will be the next step in the evolution of the horror movie? There are any number of permutations of the horror genre available for movie lovers to indulge in right now, ranging from your average slasher to your full-blown gore epics, psychological thrillers to twitching torture p*rn. All of these things exist under the umbrella of horror, but the actual definitions of the term are always changing.
As with any form … Continue reading
One of the courses Iâm enrolled in this semester is being taught by Master Blogger Michael BĂ©rubĂ©. (You can check out his blog, âAmerican Airspaceâ, at
Every couple weeks, the course requires that we post a blog entry on a closed blog about the assigned reading for that week. At first, I stared at the blog text box wondering what in the world to write about regarding a 100+ page reading assignment … Continue reading
So now you know that I get my bones from research facilities, and they come nicely cleaned up, ready to be used in all the ways I can possibly imagine (although you can buy leftovers from cadaver dog training, these bones are inevitably greasy and foul smelling – which doesnât make for great art unless you want to go for the full sensory experience).
The next question I get asked quite often is – âWhat … Continue reading
Once upon a time, horror and pop songs never really played nice together. One liked blood, gore, monsters, and darkness. The other liked to spread joy, catchy choruses and synchronized boy band dance moves. For the longest time, neither really wanted to play together.
Until one day, a young man decided he would try to get them in the same room. After some time and a lot of work, the young man … Continue reading
Another day, another news story about some beloved (or not so beloved) horror flick getting a modern makeover. It is a sad state of affairs that so much in the way of original horror gets ignored by major distributors, while ill-conceived remakes get full theatrical releases and a ton of press.
As someone that loves many of the original versions of these flicks, I can’t help but feel more than a little bitter about the … Continue reading
The horror community is always a bit on edge. Coming January 29th are the next series of films from Afterdark and this grouping seems to be a better than the last set. First on the plate is a little knee slap of a film called âLake Mungoâ. Of course, in normal society, a âmungoâ is something of a sideshow freak, a moron, a political figure if you will. Not so in this helping of monstrous … Continue reading

On July 9-11, 2010 Wyndham Hotel and Conference Center hosted Famous Monsters of Filmland Convention to bring together horror fans from all over the Midwest for a celebration for all things horror. This was Famous Monsters of Filmlandâs first convention in Indianapolis, IN with much to prepare and anticipate after a very successful Horrorhound Weekend just three months prior in the same city.Â

Summer is just around the corner and our beloved fall/spring television season has gone on break. Alas horror fans! Not to worry. A few networks have some summer shows that may be of interest. One popular vampire show along with a few newbies is set to premiere this summer. They range from drama to reality all with a nice horror twist. Will they fill the void of shows like âSupernaturalâ and âVampire … Continue reading
