Digital Media Rights (DMR) announced today the launch of over-‐ the-‐top (OTT) digital video streaming channel, Midnight Pulp, developed using Zype’s sophisticated and customizable video technology, and made available across web and mobile, and multiple platforms and devices. Midnight Pulp will premiere on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Midnight Pulp is a channel dedicated to fans of genre cinema.
The channel will feature a large selection of premium movies and television programs from the U.S. and around the world. Consumers can choose to view the channel for free or with a premium subscription. Registered users can watch videos for free with commercials while premium subscribers can access the entire selection of titles without commercials, in addition to director’s cuts and bonus features. Premium subscription pricing starts at $5.00 a month. “I started my career at Kim’s Video, an innovative, edgy video store favored by NYU film students in Greenwich Village,” said Michael Hong, CEO and Co-‐Founder, Digital Media Rights.
“Located in a basement, dimly lit, you would enter a world where alternative cinema was glorified. Membership was like a passport to every deliriously edgy, goofy, sexy, innovative film that was denied or unknown to me. Midnight Pulp is our attempt to recreate this experience. Through our relationship with Zype, we will create that experience worldwide and with every device.” Typical fans of genre cinema are passionate cinephiles who go to great lengths to find and watch films from their favorite directors, not just from the U.S., but from around the world. Midnight Pulp has a vast selection of international genre films such as Tales from the Dark 1 (Hong Kong), The Valdemar Legacy (Spain), and Princess Sakura (Japan).
“The launch of Midnight Pulp is an important next phase in DMR’s business and its ability to leverage our strength and competitive advantage in aggregating premium content from studios and television networks around the world to create exciting new services that are underserved on Pay TV and other major streaming services,” said David Chu, President and Co-‐Founder, Digital Media Rights. “We have successfully proven that our brands and titles reach a vast audience via our syndicated partners such as Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, and Google Play, and we will be announcing several new branded digital channels over the next 6 months.”
“The boom in video consumption online and mobile has created revenue opportunities for content owners and licensors,” said Ed Laczynski, Zype’s Founder. “But building a direct-‐to-‐consumer streaming destination that accounts for multiple player sources, geo-‐targeting and device-‐specific delivery is intensive. With our technology, video publishers can develop customized video destinations that drive discovery, engagement, and revenue while optimizing for device and territory restrictions.
Digital Media Rights’ Midnight Pulp is an excellent example of how Zype can power a multiplatform streaming destination and we’re thrilled to be a part of this important launch for them.”
