Only got five minutes but want to scare yourself silly? You’re in the right place. Quick play horror games offer a perfect blend of intense scares and short gameplay sessions. Sometimes a five hour long video game binge is brilliant, but there’s just nit always time for it. These games let you get some of that same excitement, but without the huge time commitment. So, are you ready for some bite-sized spine-tingling gameplay? This is our list of the ultimate quick play horror games.

Slender: The Eight Pages

Do you remember Slender Man? Sure he had his day in the early 2000’s, but the video game still stands up to scrutiny now. Slender: The Eight Pages is a super minimalist horror game that gained a cult following a while ago, but still has its die hard fans to this day. It’s absolutely terrifying. You need to navigate a dark forest at night, collecting eight pages as you go. Oh and you’ve got to do all this while being pursued by the eerie Slender Man. The more pages you collect, the more the tension builds. Slender Man gets increasingly aggressive and thus, increasingly terrifying. If you want to be checking over your shoulder for the next few weeks, then we couldn’t recommend this game strongly enough.

Halloween Fortune

From a game that’s truly terrifying to one that traditional ‘spook’ fans will enjoy. Halloween Fortune has a solid RTP of 96.16% and a classic Halloween theme. It’s not the kind of game that’s going to leave you checking under your bed every night, but it will scratch that Halloween itch, even in May. If you´re looking for a website to try out this spooky game, comparison platform Oddschecker says that BetMGM is a great place to play, thanks to its excellent demo mode, letting you try out slots before committing to spending any money. Do note that you can only play with BetMGM in MI, NJ, PA, WV, but if you’re in one of these states that’s fine! The game’s quick play sessions are perfect for a brief yet thrilling experience. With its atmospheric graphics, eerie sound effects, and engaging gameplay mechanics, Halloween Fortune captures the essence of Halloween in a concise, enjoyable format.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

This game was so popular that there have been multiple adaptations of it to the big screen. In 2023, the film Five Nights at Freddy’s was released to rave reviews, and shortly before this in 2021 Willy’s Wonderland, starring Nicholas Cage was released just in time for Halloween. Anyway, Five Night’s at Freddy’s invites you to play the role of a security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Your goal? To last five nights. You might think that surviving five nights keeping evil characters out of a pizza joint is pretty easy, but you haven’t considered that the scariest element of the job might actually be inside. Animatronic characters come to life and roam the restaurant – and they don’t seem to be too friendly. With each night lasting only a few minutes, the game offers a quick but intense experience. The strategic use of security cameras, limited power supply, and jump scares keep you on edge. It’s super clever, absolutely terrifying, and it’s not hard to see why it’s such a classic.

Dead by Daylight

There aren’t all that many quick play multiplayers, so it’s actually kind of refreshing to see Dead by Daylight taking on this challenge. In this multiplayer horror game, one player takes on the role of a killer, and four others play as survivors. The mobile version is the best for quick sessions, letting you play just one 10-15 minute game until the last survivor is standing. It’s classic cat and mouse horror and offers a really interesting perspective if you get to be the killer. So few horror movies focus on the killer’s narrative, with most opting for the (understandably scarier) survivor. However, Dead by Daylight takes it all on masterfully. The multiplayer nature of the game means that every time you play, you get a different group dynamic, helping to give the whole game pretty much endless longevity.
