Unrated Version to be Released Theatrically on October 8, 2010 in 10 top Markets
Beverly Hills, CA – Anchor Bay Films will release an unrated version of Steven R. Monroe’s new take on Meir Zarchi’s controversial classic, I Spit On Your Grave, October 8, 2010 beginning with late-night sneaks on Thursday, October 7 in select locations. Although an R-rated version exists of the remake, Anchor Bay Films will release a shocking unrated cut of I Spit on Your Grave in theaters, Anchor Bay Entertainment President Bill Clark announced today. The company will launch the film theatrically in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, and Baltimore, with additional markets to be announced.
Already heavily discussed among horror fans worldwide, this new version takes the original to an uncompromising new level. Adapted by Stuart Morse from Zarchi’s original motion picture for Day of the Woman and directed by Steven R. Monroe, I Spit On Your Grave tells the story of a beautiful woman from the city, Jennifer Hills (Sarah Butler), who rents an isolated cabin in the country to write her latest novel. Soon, a group of local lowlifes subject Jennifer to a nightmare of degradation, rape and violence. Left for dead, she returns for vengeance. Trapping her male attackers one-by-one, she inflicts acts of physical torment upon them with ferocity as the victim becomes the victor. The cast includes Jeff Branson, Daniel Franzese (Bully), Rodney Eastman (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 & 4), Chad Lindberg (The Fast and The Furious) and Andrew Howard (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen). CineTel Films’ Lisa Hansen and Paul Hertzberg produced; Zarchi, Alan Ostroff, Jeff Klein and Gary Needle served as executive producers.
“We are thrilled to be releasing the unrated, uncensored version of the new I Spit On Your Grave,” says Bill Clark, President of Anchor Bay Entertainment. “Steven R. Monroe has brought his own remarkable vision to this cult classic and we are certain that the unrated cut will, like the original, evoke a visceral reaction from audiences worldwide.”
“With Meir Zarchi intimately involved in the film as an Executive Producer, Steven R. Monroe’s I Spit On Your Grave truly honors the 1978 classic with a few surprises thrown in,” said Kevin Kasha, Executive Vice President Worldwide Acquisitions and Co-productions for Anchor Bay Films. “Fans will not be disappointed.”
“To release this film theatrically in an unrated format – the way it was meant to be seen – will delight horror fans,” said director Steven R. Monroe.
CineTel Films’ producer Lisa Hansen notes, “In a time when iconic shockers are being re-imagined only to emerge as toothless disappointments, we applaud Anchor Bay Films for having the guts to release an unrated version of the film which truly delivers the goods.”
