Word is out on the street that Lionsgate is currently seeking to bring the CUBE franchise back to life. There is no word, as of yet, on whether or not the film will be a sequel or a remake of the cult classic film from 1997. The premise of the original film was fairly simple, a group of strangers wake up in a cube shaped room with no recollection of how they got there. They have two options, stay where they are, or wander through a maze of 17,576 rooms marked with numbers that are either prime and totally safe or not prime, and filled with traps. Of course they pick the hard way. The movie spawned one sequel and a prequel but they were nowhere near as impressive as the original.
CUBE 2: HYPERCUBE existed in a space-time hidey-hole and had Geraint Wyn Davies eating everybody in sight. CUBE ZERO was a prequel of sorts that revealed that it was all just a government conspiracy in one of the most disappointing reveals in history. Hopefully in CUBE 3D they will not choose to go that route again.
“Seven complete strangers of widely varying personality characteristics are involuntarily placed in an endless kafkaesque maze containing deadly traps.”
