Event Review: Monster-Mania 53

March -10-12, 2023

Doubletree Hotel

2349 Marlton Pike West, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002

March 10th to the 12th, another Monster-Mania has come and gone. I still have my wrist band on. The guests for Monster-Mania 53 included: Charlie Hunnam, The Undertaker, Rose McGowan, Amie Donald, David Howard Thornton, Amelie McLain, Leah Voysey, Elliott Fullam, Damien Leone, Clint Howard, THEE ICONIC Adrienne Barbeau, Brooke Smith, Emilio Rivera, David LaBrava, Theo Rossi, Holly Marie Combs, Rebecca Gayheart, Gabriella Pizzolo, Eduardo Franco, Quinn Lord from Trick ‘R Treat, THEE ICON herself, Adrienne King, Amy Steel, Kimberly Beck, the always sweet and kind Melanie Kinnaman, Scott Jackson, Ken Haeser, Buz Hasson, and of course the awesome Yogi Memorial Yorkie Auction.

Monster-Mania has become a family affair. People are not just going for autographs and to meet celebrities, or childhood heroes that you may have gone through life, and thought, how would I even meet them? Monster-Mania and the Hagan makes it possible. Dave Hagan and his son Doug Hagan were in attendance talking, and working, checking people in.

The vendor room was packed. The horror community is always in search of something unique. Some familiar vendors, and awesome people included Horror Show Jack Fang Smith https://www.horrorfangs.com/ – He creates fangs and makes some of the most unique stuffed animals ever.

Also, Father Evil and Cosplay Jesus were working together. http://www.fatherevil.com/ Father Evil has developed quite a following over the years. He stuck with this and made it a career, it is a passion for him. His beautiful family was with him, and he was working the room as always. He was walking and owning the room as he usually does. Please check out Cosplay Jesus too, he is awesome. https://www.facebook.com/CosplayJesus/

Ian’s Pumpkin Carvings was in attendance, I briefly with Ian and he said he had a great weekend. https://www.facebook.com/IansPumpkinCarvings/

The TROMA team and The Toxic Avenger made an appearance. Toxie was busy all weekend. Chris Rowan had a stand set up with a brand new “Precious” plush. https://buffalobillshouse.com/ – Yes, you can stay at Buffalo Bill’s House: The Silence of The Lambs Filming Location.

Okay, let us discuss cosplay. I met five incredible souls dressed as Michael Jackson, Axl Rose, Elvis Presley, Elton John, and Alice Cooper. The amount of time and dedication it takes for some of the cosplays is mind-alerting.

I saw a few Michael’s (Myers of course), a Leatherface or two, several Art the Clown’s. In the room where the Terrifier cast, there was an entire merchandise booth for the Terrifier films.

I also spotted a Catherine Martin and Buffalo Bill from The Silence of the Lambs. Fluffy from Creepshow, a few Ghostface cosplays of course. A few more cool vendors included: Horror Gods, My Little Demon (mylittledemon.com).

Monster-Mania has become so much more than a convention. It was awesome, and I cannot wait for the next one. Stay safe out there everyone.
