Interview: Director/Writer: Corey Deshon (Daughter)

Hi Corey, it’s so great to talk to you today. How are you?

Corey- I’m doing good. How are you?

I’m good. Thanks. DAUGHTER was amazing. I loved every aspect of the film. You have me a new fear… I’m not sure if I want to go visit I don’t know ever again. Thank you.

Corey- [Laughing with me]

How did this manifest for you?

Corey- I’m glad you enjoyed it. You make a weird little creative experience, and you don’t know what the response is going to be. I’ve been pursuing filmmaking for a long time. That coincided with conversations with Vivien Ngo. Vivien proposed a story idea.

This movie isn’t the typical horror movie. The cast does a great job. The writing is great.

Michael- I’m writing with the intention of having something on the page.

What do you want everyone to know about DAUGHTER from your perspective?

Michael- There are some things in the film that are eerily similarly to out post-COVID landscape, that was not intentional. Dig into the film. It’s not the film you expected it to.

What are you working on next?

Corey-I’ve got another feature. I’m starting put the cast together, and it would be contemporary. I’m going with the same creative design as daughter.

Thank you So muc,h Michael. It was an to talk with.

Michael- Thank you, Janel.
