Each film is discussed beginning with Planet of the Apes (1968) where George Taylor lands on a distant planet in the far off future only to find it inhabited by talking apes. The horror sets in when he discovers the planet he is on is actually Earth long after the human race has decimated its own civilization with the classic scene where Taylor finds the Statue of Liberty buried in the sand. Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) follows where a second astronaut named Brent lands searching for the missing Taylor only to be drawn into the Forbidden Zone to face the mutant human population and the ultimate destruction. Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) continues the story of the supporting Chimpanzee cast as Dr. Zira, Cornelius and Milo travel back in time in Taylor’s spacecraft to 1973. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) follows Caesar, the now grown son of Zira and Cornelius, as he leads the enslaved Ape population into rebellion. Caesar leads the now free Apes in Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) as they fend off attacks from the Forbidden Zone and uprisings within their own ranks.
