Film Review: The Haunting of Sharon Tate – Review 2

SYNOPSIS:

Sharon Tate is haunted by visions of her death only for them to come true when…well, you know the rest of the story.

REVIEW:

Boy, where to even begin with this turkey? Have you ever watched a movie and thought to yourself Why does this movie exist? or Why did the filmmakers think this was a good idea? That, in a nutshell sums up how I felt about The Haunting of Sharon Tate. I don’t know if the people behind it intentionally sought out to make a film so terrible that it was virtually unwatchable or what, but if so, they succeeded with flying colors. This is without a doubt one of the worst movies I’ve seen in my entire life and I think that I lost a few IQ points after sitting through it. I won’t even bother going over the premise as you already know the story.

   

For some reason though the filmmakers thought that they should add to it to spice things up and make it a little more interesting so they thought it would be a good idea to have Sharon Tate have visions of being brutally murdered before she is killed by Charles Manson’s followers.

They were wrong. It doesn’t spice anything up or make anything more interesting in the least but does come off as extremely distasteful, insulting to Tate’s memory (as well as to the others that died that night) and is more than a little disrespectful in my humble opinion.

This movie exploits the hell out of the tragic events that occurred that night and the people responsible for this garbage should be ashamed of themselves as it is a slap in the face to Tate and her family as well as the other victims and their families as well. Did I mention that the acting is a joke? I normally don’t have a problem with Hilary Duff but I’m thinking she’ll want to leave this performance off her resume. I’m not sure what possessed her to take this role, but I feel certain that she regretted it immediately as soon as filming began. I have a feeling that the entire time they were making the movie she was thinking to herself What the hell have I gotten myself into? and was probably more than a little worried that taking this part might kill her career. She acts like she just wants to be somewhere else every single time she is on screen (and really, who could blame her?) and her performance is so bad that I felt bad for her.

I don’t think it was all her fault though and blame most of it on the screenwriter as the dialogue she has to deliver is so bad nobody could have done a good job with it. The rest of the cast is equally bad, and I don’t think that a single one of them turned in a decent performance. Then again, if I had been cast in this movie I probably wouldn’t have put my effort into things either so I guess you can’t really blame any of them as they most likely just wanted to get done filming and be done with this movie so they could all move on to better and bigger things.

I have a feeling that The Haunting of Sharon Tate with be featured on a future episode of Rifftrax or Mystery Science Theater 3000 eventually as it is that bad. I could go on and on as to why it is so terrible, but I doubt there are many people out there that have any sort of desire to see it anyway, so I’d just be wasting my time.

The people responsible for it had to know that it was a bad idea and that it was destined to fail (and be hated by most of the people that saw it) so I can’t help but wonder why they even bothered in the first place (unless making a movie that was so horrible it got a ton of negative attention was actually their goal, which I suspect was the plan here). Skip this movie like the plague as it has no redeeming qualities whatsoever and is utter trash. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
