Red Hill Movies LLC has released the first official images from Gregory Lamberson’s long awaited horror thriller Johnny Gruesome, currently shooting in Western New York. Lamberson created the screenplay in 1984, and an award-winning novelization was published in 2007. The story concerns a murdered teenager, Johnny Grissom, who returns from the grave as supernatural creature craving vengeance against those who conspired against him.
Johnny Gruesome stars Anthony De La Torre, Byron Brown II, April Ann and Michael DeLorenzo. The supporting cast includes Chris Modrzynski, Kim Piazza, Richard Lounello and Madison Amey. Lamberson serves as the screenwriter, director and producer, with Tamar Lamberson and John Renna as co-producers and Erin Heald as executive producer. Special makeup effects artist Craig Lindberg designed and applied the Johnny Gruesome makeup. Matthew A. Nardone of NDstudios is the cinematographer.
“We have a fantastic cast and a top notch crew,” says Lamberson. “We’re three quarters of the way done, and we’ve firing on all cylinders every day. I think this is a great step for the Buffalo Niagara region: a film written, produced and financed locally, with total creative freedom and high production values.”
Johnny Gruesome is filming in Akron, Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Clarence, Lancaster and Niagara Falls, and wraps principal photography July 30th. Completion is expected at the end of the year. This is the first of Lamberson’s novels to be adapted for the screen: Carnage Road is under option by actor Craig Sheffer and The Jake Helman Files is being developed by George Miohalka.
