Mark Pellington’s Cathartic Dance Film THE SEVERING Premieres 9/17 at DTLA Film Fest

THE SEVERING

Directed by Mark Pellington

(THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, ARLINGTON ROAD)

Choreographed by Nina McNeely

(Gaspar Noe’s CLIMAX)

Kino Lorber presents Mark Pellington’s THE SEVERING, a cathartic dance movement piece created in collaboration with the brilliant choreographer Nina McNeely (Gaspar Noe’s CLIMAX) and rising Dutch cinematographer Evelin Rei.

Inspired by the Wim Wenders film PINA, THE SEVERING expresses feelings and emotions through a story of movement and text rather than plot, capturing emotion and physicality on an experiential, non-linear visceral level through the movements of bodies and souls. Exploring themes of fear, reconnection, and grief through the non-verbal vessel of dance, THE SEVERING is a cathartic re-encounter for anyone who has felt loss or isolation.
