I recently had the opportunity to talk with one of the writers of ‘Amityville: The Awakening’ Casey La Scala, we were actually talking about his new directorial effort ‘The Remaining’ also a horror film (watch for an in depth article on that conversation shortly) and his involvement in ‘Amityville: The Awakening’ came up. At no point though did we discuss a trailer but lookie what has shown up – just that.
It has originally been thrown around to make this one a “found footage’ flick and with the involvement of Jason Blum and his amazingly prolific ‘Blumhouse Entertainment’ – it seemed to be a given but…they dropped that idea and instead we get a fresh new chapter in the ‘Amityville’ mythos.
“Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.”
The film is still set for a Jan. 2nd, 2015 release
I didn’t find the original that frightening. It had moments, but was an average horror film. I caught the follow-ups on TV. Kind of silly. Will a new film help? Only if it were possessed!
