TVGuide.com is reporting that the CW has purchased a spec script for a potential new show titled ‘Awakening’ and it is ripe with zombies. The show will follow the story of two sisters who will face off against one another amidst the chaos of a zombie apocalypse. The script was written by William Laurin and Glenn Davis, and it is currently in development, but there is no word of a pilot just yet.
The tremendous success of AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ could help tilt the scales in the show’s favor. The CW is notorious for jumping on the bandwagon of current trends in pop culture (i.e. ‘The Vampire Diaries’ currently cashing in on the vampire craze) but the network doesn’t always have the best track record. Remember this is the same CW that passed on renewing ‘Reaper,’ a show that brought in modest but respectable ratings, for a third season in favor of programs that appealed to a younger demographic like the flop ‘Melrose Place’ and Ashton Kutcher’s ‘Beautiful Life’ which was also a colossal bomb for the network.
If the CW steers clear of casting fashion models and incorporating baby mama drama into the program they might just have another possible hit on their hands.
