August’s FrightFest London will host the World Premiere of award-winning filmmaker Douglas Schulze’s new apocalyptic horror movie THORNS. The 23rd edition of FrightFest will host a prime slot screening for THORNS on Saturday, August 26th @ 8:30 pm on Discovery Screen 2. Director Schulze will be attending the monster flick’s premiere screening.
THORNS centers on an ex-priest working for NASA who is sent to investigate a remote observatory that went silent after receiving a radio signal from deep space. Upon arrival, he discovers the signal has set in motion the biblical End of Times. The former priest must now summon his lost faith to stop the signal from spreading hell on earth.
THORNS melds themes of religion and science within the framework of a classic 1980s-era monster movie. The film is ripe with physical makeup FX and plenty of gore. HELLRAISER’s Doug Bradley costars as a mysterious Archbishop. In addition to Bradley, the film stars Jon Bennett (DARK HEAVEN) as fallen priest Gabriel Goodman; Cassandra Shomer as Sister Agnes; Bo Shumacher as the transformative Dr. Malik and introducing Elly Schulze.
Schulze is a veteran of independent cinema having helmed the John Saxon cult flick HELLMASTER; MIMESIS with Sid Haig; the sequel MIMESIS: NOSFERATU, with Lance Henriksen; and the dialogue-free experimental thriller THE DARK BELOW. Schulze’s films have played prominent international festivals such as CineQuest, Fantasia, the New York City Horror Film Festival, L’Etrange in Paris and others.
FrightFest will takes place August 24-28, 2023 at the Cineworld in London’s Leicester Square. Festival details can be found here: http://frightfest.co.uk/.
