Actress Devin Sidell is a talented actress starring in Rob Zombie’s new film, “31.” From her performance in Rob Zombie’s latest film, “31” you would never suspect this is Devin Sidell’s first horror film. Devin is upbeat, full of life and has a great spirit. She spoke with me for a Horrornews.net exclusive. Chainsaws, clowns and blood… Oh my! Devin Sidell, Malcolm McDowell, Sheri Moon Zombie, Meg Foster, David Ury, Tracy Walter, Lew Temple, Kevin Jackson, Elizabeth Daily star in Rob Zombie’s, “31.”
How did you get involved with “31?”
Devin- I had actually never worked with Rob before. It was an audition. A casting director who I knew was casting it and I had been in contact with her. She brought me in to read for it and I read for it and she put it on tape and then a few days later she was like we want to book you so I actually had never worked with them before.
How did you prepare for the role in “31?”
Devin- Oh goodness, well I had never done a horror movie before. This is my first time. I’ve done so much theatre and I have played other roles that have been gruesome and down and dirty. I think it is just trying to make Georgina (Devin’s role in “31”) also in that insane situation. I mean we had hope that none of us or very few of us end up in a situation like this. I didn’t know what to expect so I don’t know if I did much to prepare except to just try to remember that she is a real person and she is really in this situation. We got to keep it real even though there are going to be chainsaws, blood and clowns.
What challenges did you face working on “31?”
Devin- (will not list spoilers she told me) I am sure they want to keep some of it under wraps. I couldn’t get up all day. (For a scene)
This film has an all-star insanely talented cast. What was it like working with everyone?
Devin- It was so much fun! I was sort of trying to take a step back. I watched them to see what they were up to. Rob really lets the actor’s kind of experiment and he just trusts that we are actors and we know what we’re doing. So we all kind of got to play around with each other and sort of feel things out. We kept to the script but I think a lot of new stuff came up and it added more layers. I loved working with Meg Foster. I am in awe of her after working on this with her. She is amazing!
You have done so many amazing films and shows. Do you think you would come back for another horror film?
Devin- I had so much fun. I would love to. Who wouldn’t want to be bloody and covered in dirt. It is just so much fun.
What projects are you working on next?
Devin- I am the lead in this web series called “LA Picker.” The website is www.lapicker.com and it is about this woman who is an estate sale and a flea market junkie. She finds things at those sales and then re-sells them. She is trying to create her own business. It is super cute and will be coming out on February 8th, 2016 on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/c/LAPicker
The pilot is already out, but the rest of the series we shot nine more episodes and they will start on the website and the YouTube channel on February 8th. It is based on me. I have a friend who wrote this based on me because I love going to estate sales and flea markets and all those things and finding weird items. I used to sell them but now I don’t have as much time because I am doing more acting. It is a really cute series, my dog is in it! (Hugs to Devin’s Dog Noodle!)
What is the craziest thing you found at an estate sale or flea market?
Devin- Oh wow, this isn’t so crazy but I thought it was hysterical. I found a vintage, miniature game from the fifties or the sixties. It was strip checkers from the fifties or sixties. It was this vintage game where you would play checkers and strip. It was awesome.
