Mortal Remains Worldwide Release – Friday, October 13th

DOCU-THRILLER MORTAL REMAINS WORLDWIDE RELEASE — FRIDAY OCTOBER 13, 2017!

OAKMONT, PA – The facts behind the gruesome legend of horror filmmaker Karl Atticus will finally be revealed at on Friday, October 13, 2017 with the official worldwide release of Mortal Remains, the award-winning independent film produced by Cryptic Pictures LLC. For horror fans of the “Steel City”, the official screening party will be held at the Oaks Theater in Oakmont PA at 8:00 p.m. Co-directors Christian Stavrakis and Mark Ricche will be in attendance, as will various members of the film’s cast and crew. For horror fans worldwide, a simultaneous release on Amazon Prime and 62 Itunes’ territories will be followed by digital releases on Google Play (10/26), Vudu (11/10) and Netflix in 2018!

Mortal Remains is a “shockumentary” which examines the life of Karl Atticus, a notorious figure from the Vietnam era whose works have been purged from film history… with good reason, according to some. Interviews with historians and horror aficionados – including Eduardo Sanchez, co-director of The Blair Witch Project – suggest that Atticus’s legacy may have been far more sinister than even his detractors suspect. Shot under-the-radar in the Pittsburgh area over a three-year period, Mortal Remains is the debut feature of Cryptic Pictures, an independent production and distribution company.

Since its completion in 2013, Mortal Remains has been screened theatrically around the country, including the Three Rivers Film Festival (Pittsburgh), the American Film Institute (Maryland), Dick Clark Studios (Los Angeles) and the Film Anthology Archives (NYC). During that time it has garnered numerous awards and honoraria.

The worldwide release of Mortal Remains marks the culmination of a 13-year effort by Stavrakis and Ricche, life-long fans of the cinema who have perused making a feature film since first meeting in high school in the 1980s. The release is a triumph for the two men, who unwittingly made their feature during a period in which the traditional “Hollywood system” collapsed with onset of the digital age. The filmmakers share the details of this bizarre journey in CryptiCast, a 10-episode podcast aimed at helping independent filmmakers achieve their goals in an environment of constant change.
