Work is still being done on the untitled prequel to the movie Alien. Fortunetly it’s not a remake, and Ridley Scott is directing this movie so there is plenty of hope that something good will come out of this. Ridley has also teamed up again with the original designer H.R. Giger who will be consulted to create new designs for the creatures in the film. Ridley Scott is interested in possibly creating a new look for the aliens. This is pretty exciting as H.R. Geiger is amazing at coming up with creepy, interesting designs.
While Ridley Scott had not yet revealed an official plot line yet he has had this to say. “ “It’s set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver’s character Ellen Ripley]. It’s fundamentally about going out to find out ‘Who the hell was that Space Jockey?’ The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer’s chair. And our man [Tom Skerritt as Captain Dallas] climbs up and says “There’s been an explosion in his chest from the inside out — what was that?” I’m basically explaining who that Space Jockey — we call him the Space Jockey — I’m explaining who the space jockeys were.” He added… “[The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life.” He also then added this “The film will be really tough, really nasty. It’s the dark side of the moon. We are talking about gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would go in and clean up a planet?”
This is yet another film in line with all the others that will be shot in 3D. In this case though it might actually be something that adds to the film instead of taking away from it. Ridley Scott is a great director who would certainly not use 3D just for the sake of having it and would make sure that it only helps to amplify the atmosphere that these Alien movies work so hard to create.
