The Night the Line Was ERASED
“The Franchise” Shane Douglas vs “The Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac” Sabu
This is a match up that has roots dating back to the glory days of Extreme. February 5th, 1994 is a date which will live in infamy in the professional wrestling history books. It was, The Night the Line was Crossed! At that time, it was unheard of that three men would wrestle each other in a single match, but setting new ground ECW pitted Shane Douglas against Sabu against Terry Funk in a match that set the standard of excellence that ECW was known for. Several years after the original ECW met its demise, the band of misfits banned together for a Hardcore Homecoming. June 10th, 2005 once again pitted Shane Douglas against Sabu against Terry Funk in a rematch from The Night the Line was Crossed. The only difference, this time they tangled in a Barbwire Match! Now, in less than one week, on Saturday night, April 28th, 2012 we are all set for an Extreme Reunion as Shane Douglas meets Sabu once again! It’s been nearly two decades since Shane Douglas and Sabu “crossed the line”, so lord knows what’s in store for us, as they plan to battle on The Night the Line was ERASED? I have a lot of questions but the most important, what about the third man out, will Terry Funk find his way back to Extreme and somehow be part of this match or its outcome?
Predictions:
On January 14, 2012 as part of an EVOLVE wrestling show, the world famous ECW arena hosted it’s very last professional wrestling card. The show’s ending had Sabu defeat Justin Credible, afterward in controversial style, a young upstart named Sami Callihan decided to beat down Sabu in front of all his diehard fans in order to make a point. While this is technically an EVOLVE feud, I would not be surprised to see Sami Callihan show up and bring this Extreme Reunion to a screeching halt. If I were Sabu, I would watch my back.
Notes:
To Shane Douglas. If any of my predictions are true, you owe me a Philly Cheesesteak at Tony Lukes.
To Sabu. I would love interview Sabu and ask him the question of all questions, “How’s Ann Duffy?”
Philly Brawl
Raven vs Pitbull Gary Wolf
Wile E Coyote Super Genius is probably the cartoon equivalent to Raven. He wouldn’t disagree with that. September 16th, 1995 at an ECW show called Gangsters Paradise, a brutal tag match pitted The Pitbulls against Raven & Stevie Richards. They battled 2 out of 3 falls in a Double Dog Collar War! This was one of the most memorable matches in the company’s history. This weekend there will be no tag partners for these gentlemen, but that doesn’t mean it will be any less of a wrestling war.
Predictions:
Raven is probably planning this match out to be a physiological thriller but I’m sure Pitbull Gary Wolf is thinking more along the lines of a Gore Fest! There will be blood.
Notes:
To Raven. I remember many Saturday nights watching Raven wrestle at the old ECW arena, but I also remember many Monday nights watching Raven DJ at Moondancers in Maple Shade, NJ. They used to play RAW on one televison set and NITRO on another television set during the heyday of the Monday Night Wars. Unfortunately, both the ECW arena and Moondancers are no more.
“Chairs, Chairs, and More Chairs”
Balls Mahoney vs Axl Rotten
Axl “He’s No Johnny” Rotten can sure swing a chair with the best of them. He can take a chair shot too. Balls & Axl have fought side by side against some of the best ECW tag teams, but this weekend they will focused on destroying each other. I’m sure they’ll both have a smile on their face while doing it. I think “Concussion Squad” would have made an outstanding tag team name.
Predictions:
“The Gangsters”, New Jack and Mustafa are announced for this show but no opponents. I think during Axl against Balls, we will hear the Gangsters music play, followed by New Jack and Mustafa bringing out tons of weapons. The match will quickly turn into a tag team blitz and I’m sure The Gangsters will come out on top.
Notes:
Watching a New Jack match is like watching an episode of OZ on HBO. Watch out that you don’t get shanked.
Other matches announced are…
“Champions Collide”
Jerry Lynn vs Justin Credible
“Wrestling Purists Dream Match”
Al Snow w/ Head vs CW Anderson
“The Final Battle”
The Full Blood Itailians (FBI) Little Guido, Tony Mamaluke, Tracy Smothers
vs
The Blue World Order (BWO) Blue Meanie, Stevie Richards, Blue Surprise
