Interview: Doug Hutchinson (X-files, Green Mile, Vampire Killers)

Could you explain a little about “Vampire Killers” to those who haven’t had the pleasure of seeing it yet?

“VAMPIRE KILLERS” IS A GRITTY, SEXY, DARK SERIES ABOUT FOUR 20-SOMETHINGS SOLICITED BY A FACELESS ENTITY TO HUNT DOWN AND DESTROY A CABAL OF 13 HOT VAMPIRE BABES IN THE L.A. AREA.

Why a web series and not a film or Television series and is there plans to make it into a feature or a DVD?

THE INTERNET IS THE WILD WILD WEST. ANYTHING GOES. I’D PREFER TO KEEP “VAMPIRE KILLERS” A WEB-SERIES BECAUSE, NOT ONLY CAN I OFFER IT TO FANS FOR FREE, BUT I CAN MAINTAIN CREATIVE CONTROL. PERHAPS, IN THE FUTURE, IF THE SHOW GAINS THE SUCCESS I HOPE IT DOES, A FEATURE IS IMMINENT.

What drew you to create this project?

FROM COLLECTING “THE TOMB OF DRACULA” COMICS AS A KID, READING ANNE RICE’S NOVELS, AND DIGGING MOVIES LIKE “NOSFERATU”, “THE ADDICTION”, AND “THE HUNGER”, I’VE ALWAYS HAD AN AFFINITY FOR THE VAMPIRE GENRE. “VAMPIRE KILLERS” WAS INITIALLY CONCEIVED AS A TV SERIES AND THEN MY GOOD FRIEND, MARCO MANNONE [CO-WRITER AND PLAYING THE ROLE OF TRAVIS IN “VK”], SUGGESTED TURNING IT INTO A WEB-SERIES. I THOUGHT IT WAS AN ENTICING IDEA AND THE PERFECT VENUE FOR SOMETHING LIKE”VAMPIRE KILLERS”.

There is an incredible almost of back story on all the characters, did you create it all or was it a team effort and why so much background?

I CREATED “VAMPIRE KILLERS” WITH MY PARTNERS, TIM BALDINI [DIRECTOR/EDITOR/WRITER] AND MARCO MANNONE. WE CREATED BACKGROUND BECAUSE WE WANT TO CONTINUE THE SERIES. BACKGROUND IS ESSENTIAL TO LONGEVITY OF PLOT …

Will we be seeing more of the histories of the characters in future episodes?

I HOPE SO.

What can the viewers look forward to seeing in future episodes, just some hints please?

AMY’S DILEMMA. A BIG SECRET IN JOHNNY’S LIFE. A “MOLE” IN THE OPERATION. A CHILD VAMPIRE [THE 13TH QUEEN] WHO WILL
ARRIVE TO HELP CHARLOTTE “END THE WORLD” …

Do you have trouble coming to work knowing there will be all these beautiful actresses there? And are there ever any slow motion pillow fights?

I ENJOY BEAUTIFUL ACTRESSES, SO NO TROUBLE THERE. SLOW MOTION PILLOW FIGHTS? NOT LIKELY … BUT WE COULD SEE SOME SLOW MOTION “FEEDING” FIGHTS …

Why are there no male vampires in the series or is that a future plot point?

THERE ARE NO MALE VAMPIRES BECAUSE … WELL … YEAH …[AHEM] … YOU’LL JUST HAFTA WAIT AND FIND OUT …

All your actresses are stunning but Ania Spiering as the queen vampire is a powerful presence, how did you find an actress who wouldn’t be lost with so much beauty around?

I TOTALLY LUCKED OUT WITH ANIA. SHE WALKED IN, AUDITIONED, AND NAILED IT. SHE’S MY QUINTESSENTIAL CHARLOTTE: BEAUTIFUL, DARK, ALLURING … AND DANGEROUS.

Are you sure she isn’t a real vampire? It’s hard to think that someone like her is really walking our normal existence.

ANIA MAY BE A REAL VAMPIRE. WHO KNOWS? IF SO, I WOULDN’T TURN DOWN A BITE. WOULD YOU?

Any plans in a future episode for Ania to seduce an interviewer (who dies well) and slowly suck the blood from him? Just a thought.
