“There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling the transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to… The Outer Limits.”
If you knew where I was going with that before you reached the end then you may be both excited and disappointed. The Outer Limits is being made into a major motion picture. Variety has reported that the deal is within the six figures and MGM has brought on Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan as screenwriters. They are best known for their work on all three Feast films as well as Saw IV-VII. It’s not been made clear yet if this is going to be an anthology of stories much like what was done with Creepshow and the Twilight Zone Movie or if it will be just one straight story from an Outer Limits episode. Naturally though you have already figured out the disappointing news. It’s being done by MGM. Yes that same MGM that cannot even get a James Bond film made because of their financial woes. Basically this is a good idea that won’t really begin moving forward until MGM is bought out or merged with Lionsgate. Keep your eyes peeled though because if MGM is moving forward with this then maybe they know something that the rest of us don’t.
