XYZ and Industry Ent. set Eva Sorhaug to direct adaptation of Edge of Normal

EVA SØRHAUG SET TO DIRECT THRILLER ‘EDGE OF NORMAL’ BASED ON BEST-SELLING NOVEL BY CARLA HORTON

XYZ Films to produce alongside Industry Entertainment with XYZ financing and handling worldwide sales

It was announced today that Norwegian helmer Eva Sørhaug is set to direct EDGE OF NORMAL, based on the best-selling novel by Carla Norton, with a script adapted by Matt Venne and Lori Evans Taylor. XYZ Films is set to produce alongside Industry Entertainment, with XYZ financing and handling worldwide sales. The film will be produced In Association With Bold Films.

EDGE OF NORMAL deals with a woman named Reeve LeClaire who has managed to piece together a normal life as an adult, but she’s haunted by memories of being held captive by a sadistic man in her teens. When her psychiatrist asks Reeve to mentor another young survivor, she finds herself in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with a force far more powerful than her.

Sørhaug’s psychological thriller 90 MINUTES recently premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. In television, Sørhaug has directed episodes of the Netflix series OCCUPIED, created by Jo Nesbø and Erik Skjoldbjærg. In the US, Sørhaug is currently directing three episodes of the upcoming Showtime series YOUR HONOR starring Bryan Cranston. She also recently directed AMERICAN GODS for Starz and two episodes of REPRISAL for Hulu and Warren Littlefield. Prior to that, she directed the pilot and the first 4 episodes of the new Scandinavian political thriller series from the producers of the Danish format THOSE WHO KILL, titled WITCH HUNT (VARSELEREN), which follows a female whistle-blower.

Norton is a true-crime writer whose book Perfect Victim spent four weeks at number one on the New York Times Best Seller list. She also penned the true-crime book Disturbed Ground. Edge of Normal was her first fictional novel, which was followed by the sequel What Doesn’t Kill Her.

Matt Venne recently adapted Stephen King’s “Bag of Bones” as a limited series for A&E. He also wrote a feature adaptation of “Mystery on 5th Avenue” for Bad Robot, as well as writing the television adaptation of the hit film “The Devil’s Advocate” for Warner Bros, John Wells, Arnold Kopelson and NBC.

Most recently in television, Matt sold his original series “Cruel Summer” (based on his novella of the same name) to Legendary TV with David Goyer attached to produce and Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmeyer (“Pet Semetary”) attached to direct. Matt also wrote an installment of the “Creepshow” reboot for Greg Nicotero (“The Walking Dead”).

In the feature space, Matt has most recently written an original supernatural thriller entitled “Black Box” for Dark Castle Entertainment, which is eyeing an early 2021 production start.

XYZ’s recent slate of production and sales titles include DUAL, starring Karen Gillan, Aaron Paul and Jesse Eisenberg, THE TRIP starring Noomi Rapace, RUN RABBIT RUN with Elisabeth Moss and current release VIVARIUM starring Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots. XYZ is also in post-production on STOWAWAY starring Anna Kendrick and Toni Collette.

Industry Entertainment recently produced two projects for Netflix: MESSIAH was released January 1st and was perhaps the most the most viewed series in the world for the first few months of 2020 and the just released feature LOVE GUARANTEED, which was the #1 film on Netflix during its first week of release. Other recent credits include NBC’s SUNNYSIDE as well as Kal Penn’s upcoming series KAL PENN APPROVES THIS MESSAGE for Freeform. Past credits include feature films THE DOUBLE starting Richard Gere and FIRE WITH FIRE starring Bruce Willis and Rosario Dawson. Starting this fall, Bold Films will begin producing THE GUILTY, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
