October 3-6, 2019

I was able to attend New York Comic Con on October 3, 2019. Thursday was building. I was nervous, excited and anxious to see what it was going to be like. I have never been to NYCC. Or as many New Yorkers told me today, its “comic con” to them. New York is a city that feels alive. As soon as you go through the Lincoln Tunnel (or the Holland Tunnel depending where you are coming from?!) the atmosphere is different. The hustle and bustle. The noise disappears after a while. It’s just people going from place to place and living life. It was wall to wall traffic but it was incredible. New York is unprecedented. It is a one of a kind city. New York gives you memories for a lifetime.

I arrived at the Javits Center. It was packed…. And that was just OUTSIDE. People everywhere, people dressed up in every character genre you can imagine. Anime, Superheroes, Horror icons walking among the people. An ordinary day in my life and in New York. No one was phased. I found out where I needed to go thanks to helpful people/staff and New Yorkers. In the Javits Center as soon as you walk in it is wall to wall people but the Javits Center is GIGANTIC. It is an architecture dream come true. It is fascinating.  I got my badge and they activated it. I got in another line to get my “Press pass.” I was set and now officially going in.

There is EVERYTHING and anything you want to see. The panels, events, the exhibitor list, Artist Alley, Cosplay Central, a Press Lounge, merchandise that is coveted. RYAN REYNOLDS showed up tonight. He took to the main stage and fans were thrilled. The guest are listed as Comic Guests, Entertainment Guests, Literary Guests and you can buy autographs and photo ops. There is a schedule listed on the NYCC official website.  https://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Guests/Autographing-And-Photo-Ops-Schedule/

I ran into a few friends and also met some new friends. This comic con was incredible. There are conventions, events and signings. They are always fun. Life is what you make of it… as they say. The Comic Guests ranged from Aaron Alexovich, Abby Howard, Aburtov, Alex Sanchez, Andy Belanger, and Black Super Power. (Complete list is here https://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Guests/Comic-Guests/ )

The entertainment guests consisted of: Tom Hiddleston (Marvel’s Thor, Marvel’s Avengers Infinity Saga), Paul Rudd (Marvel’s Ant-Man, Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, Clueless and so many more), Adam Deats, Adam Dubin, Adam Savage, Adetokumboh, Alex Garland, Alejandra Reynoso, Alexa Swinton, Alexis Denisof, Alison Wright, Allon Reich, Amy Jo Johnson, Amy Acker, Awesome Kong, Betty Gilpin, Billy Dee Williams, Billy Boyd, Chris Jericho, Clancy Brown, Clare Kramer, Donald Faison, DOUG JONES, J. August Richards, Jalynn Steele, James Marsters, Jeremy Irons, Joe Gatto, Kel Mitchell, Lin Shaye, Louis Gossett Jr., Michael Biehn, Molly Ringwald, Nichelle Nichols, Rachel Miner, Regina King.

All the days vary and the other guests show up like Ryan Reynolds did. Here is the full list of who will be in attendance and on what days. https://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Guests/Entertainment-Guests/

The Walking Dead Season 10 premieres on AMC at 9/8c on Sunday, October 6, 2019. The huge banner in the gigantic lobby of the Javits center featured Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira and Melissa McBride. The first episode of The Walking Dead premiered on October 31, 2010. Based on the comic books by Robert Kirkman. Netflix had the show, Lost in Space on display. The Purge Season two, premieres on USA on October 15th. SYFY Wire had quite a few exclusives. Impulse was also popular. Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn had enough posters and billboards for a lifetime. Some of the costumes from the film were on-display. This had fans flocking and posing with the outfits worn by Robbie.

An Amazon original THE EXPANSE also held a spot in the middle of the madness which is NYCC. It premieres December 13 on prime video. Felicia Day of Supernatural has a new book out and she was talking to SYFY Wire. The #SPNFamily was all over in support of her and the amazing Rachel Miner. Felicia’s book is called, “Embrace Your Weird.” Jay and Silent Bob The Reboot are featured as figurines on display.

Walking around comic con is unreal. The amount of people and the people who are in cosplay is awesome. People put so much time and effort into the cosplays. A love for a character or a film stays engrained in you. People are more than happy to pose for a photo in a signature pose or take a photo with you. All you have to do is ask. I spotted a Jason Voorhees… or twenty…. Spiderman, The Purge characters, Harley Quinn’s, beautifully crafted anime, Iron Man/ Tony Stark characters. Captain America, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Loki, Venom, Harry Potter, a Darth Vader or ten. A Gigantic Panda who was having fun with the crowd. Taking photos and leaping back and forth. He was full of energy with a spring in his step.

The gamers came out by the thousands. Playing classic favorites on a huge old school arcade game. People sat and built various things. They had so many set-ups for gaming, it was unreal. You could watch any type of game at any given time. They introduced new stuff for PS4 and more. The displays were amazing also. You could take photos with various sets up including NBC’s comedy line-up.

The Exhibitor list was incredible. Thousands of people walking around dressed as charcters or in comic con t-shirts. While, I wore a HAUNT movie t-shirt available at FRIGHT RAGS https://www.fright-rags.com/ If there was something you wanted you probably could find it at NYCC. Exhibitors like, 1917 Pop-Up Theatre, 1984 Publishing and so many more. https://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Explore/Exhibitor-List/#/exhibitors/alphabetical

They had t-shirts, games, movies, props, merchandise, decor, wigs, hats, scarves. Anything you desired, they had it. Artist Alley, https://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Explore/Artist-Alley/#/artistalley/alphabetical was so incredible. You could talk to the artist and see the beautiful workthey do. You can purchase incredible pieces. It a once in a lifetime experience. I included the full list. The art was out of this world. So unique. They had popular stands on display and people just flocked to everything. You just had to see everything. The people were happy and just having fun. Dressed as heroes and villains. Crank Yankers had a great set-up.

Marvel had an incredible stand. Sideshow, Harry Potter, Dark Horse and more. The NYCC was magical. It was fun and so full of life. People were having fun, forgetting about the worries of everyday life. If you have never been to a NYCC, I suggest you go. It was an amazing day. The people and New York make it even better. New York is always a character in everything. A lively city that displays a chutzpah and tenacity unlike any other.
