REVIEW:

For those of you who have been staying with me on this, I have been reporting on this series since its inception. Quite simply “Ash Vs the Evil Dead” has been among 1 of the most extreme outrageous horror TV series of all time. While never short on blood and mayhem it’s the richness of the characters that make this series dynamically bold and full of suprises.

Upon reading about Bruce Campbell and his stint with the series, we also know that with the arrival of Season 3 onto bluraY, it also marks the closure of the series itself. Bruce Campbell is moving on, having satisfied his fans with 3 full seasons of Evil Dead universe-driven madness. The design and premise stays pretty true to its original roots under the guiding light of creators: Sam Raimi and Tom Spezialy. Sam Raimi served as the executive producer on 20 of the series episodes. Season 3 contains 10 episodes in (staying in line with its 2 previous seasons).

Blu-ray and DVD include audio commentary with executive producer Rob Tapert on every single episode.

In recap Ash Vs. the Evil Dead is a comedy horror television series created exclusively for the Starz Network. The series, void of censorship, takes on some pretty extreme scenes designed to push the envelope from a horror comedy foundation.

Each season contains 10 thrilling episode which (while short) are indeed intense and a more than worthy inclusions into the Evil Dead Franchise. Bruce Campbell, the series main focal actor and character Ash Williams, has often said that while fans have been asking for more Evil Dead sequels over the years, it is the series which brings fans the equivalent of several Evil Dead movies all under one roof.

Now with Season 3 coming to a finish, we still have a much anticipated bluray release chock full of Evil Dead extras and goodies. While not giving anything away, fans can say that by the final episode we get closure that brings the whole universe to an impressive FX-heavy finish. Those who have been scratching their heads trying to put the pieces together about the Necronomicon and its demonites will finally have a much more cohesive grasp of its realm and denizens.

“Ash vs, the Evil Dead” contains a rather dynamic cast of charters. These include: Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon Bolivar, Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell/Sorceress Kaya,Lucy Lawless as Ruby Knowby/Rebecca Prevett and Arielle Carver-O’Neill as Brandy Bar.

Ruby gives birth to a look alike Ash while also summoning the greatest threat of all, the Kandarian Demon. Brock Williams (Ash’s father) returns for a short stint while Pablo discovers how to open the portal in time, a common element seen in “Evil Dead II – Dead by Dawn”. Kelly who was murdered is caught in a realm while her body is possessed by the sorceress Kaya, who has been imprisoned in the netherworld.

The Kandarian Dagger is found offering a potential solution to end the threat of the Kandarian Demon. Old settings from previous films are revisited offering more than just franchise name alone to these episodes.

Did I mention that during all this Ash is (was) trying to maintain a hardware store business often interrupted by the chaos of the deadite legacies popping up left and right. We are introduced to the Dark Ones, a group of dark demons trapped with in the rift intent on reclaiming the Necronomicon.

Finally thru various demon attacks, sudden deaths, possession, and dead folks coming back to to life we head into the ultimate confrontation, the one known as “Kandar the Destroyer”, a gigantic demon who’s crossing over could very mean the end of the world as they know it!

It’s great horror mayhem from top to bottom closing a series that deserves many more repeat viewings. If you’ve made it this far, then you already know owning all 3 seasons, means you can relive these great moments time and time again. I certainly am one who is sad to see it all come to an end, however as an Evil Dead fan, we’ve also had to wait since 2008’s “Army of the Dead”. Give yourself a horrific treat and dive headfirst into the world of “Ash vs Evil Dead”

Ash Vs. Evil dead Season 3 is now available on bluray per Starz / Anchor Bay
