A chilling glimpse into the surreal and haunting world of sleep paralysis is unveiled in the official teaser trailer for Haunters of the Silence, an upcoming arthouse feature film that explores the boundary between dreams and reality. The official teaser is now available to view on YouTube.
Haunters of the Silence captures the eerie stillness of night where the familiar becomes unsettlingly unknown. This minimalist production blurs the line between waking life and a fragmented dreamscape, drawing viewers into a story that explores the effects that trauma and loss can have on the human psyche.
“Haunters of the Silence is an exploration of loneliness, isolation and the subconscious,” says writer-director Tatu Heikkinen, reflecting on the inspiration for the project. “Several members of the film crew have experienced sleep paralysis, and these experiences were channeled into scenes for the movie.”
The debut film of cinematographer Veleda Thorsson-Heikkinen, Haunters of the Silence combines alternative film making techniques like still photography and stop motion with traditional video. The film is currently in the final stages of post-production in Portland, Oregon.
The film draws inspiration for its style from experimental music genres, like dark ambient, ritual folk and drone metal. Featuring music by artists John Haughm (Agalloch), Shane Davis (Ravnblod), Aki Vartiainen (SeaNoir) and more, the movie’s atmosphere is largely built around immersive soundscapes and haunting tonal layers that echo the abstract and surreal themes of the story.
Haunters of the Silence is slated for release in fall 2025.
