Dark fiction fans are in for a mind-bending trip of horror when SAVAGE BEASTS, the auditory extravaganza from Chicago-based Grey Matter Press, sees its worldwide release on Tuesday, August 11.

Featuring eleven short stories that offer readers a terrifying written recital, the genre fiction authors whose music-influenced work is collected in SAVAGE BEASTS reflect some of the freshest voices in horror, science fiction and speculative fiction.

“The authors in this book have turned up the volume on dark fiction to dangerous levels in this incredibly creative anthology,” said Anthony Rivera, Grey Matter Press publisher and editor. “Their work in SAVAGE BEASTS explores a diverse range of scenarios, each inspired in some way by the music we’ve all grown up listening to.

SAVAGE BEASTS is a compendium of modern horror influenced by some of the greatest names in music. These include rock icons Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd, The Cranberries, Genesis, Peter Gabriel and Tom Petty; Danish death metal group Pestilence; new wave and dancehall diva Grace Jones; Portuguese electronic house duo Underground Sound of Lisbon; indie rockers School of Seven Bells; classical composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, Johannes Brahms; as well as Walt Disney and the studio’s famous “It’s a Small World,” a song that was itself inspired by the 1962 US/USSR standoff known as the Cuban missile crisis.

“When we placed the call for this anthology, we didn’t know what to expect from the authors, but we knew it was going to be great,” said Rivera. “And we weren’t wrong. The array of work they came up with for this amazing collection of stories, each based on their own personal musical influences, is a testament to the talent found in SAVAGE BEASTS.”

Contributors to SAVAGE BEASTS include the Bram Stoker Award-nominated John F.D. Taff; Pushcart nominees Edward Morris and Konstantine Paradias; political and entertainment journalist Shawn Macomber, whose work has been published in FANGORIA, Rue Morgue, Maxim and the Wall Street Journal; editor-in-chief of the highly respected Jamais Vu magazine, Paul Michael Anderson; accomplished authors Karen Runge, E.
