Frankenstein’s Army is an astonishing film from a director with a clear vision and an obvious love for horror films and movie monsters. The Zombots in the film are visual nightmares, incredible in their production and design. Viktor Frankenstein played by Karel Roden is insane, but brilliant. Director Richard Raaphorst illustrates what can be done with a small budget and big imagination. The grue-crew are somewhat divided on the film’s story, but they all agree the monsters are incredible with Santos suggesting it may end up on his top 10 horror films of the year.
BJ McDonnell, director of Hatchet III, joins in to talk about the DVD/Blu-ray release of his film about Adam Green’s modern horror icon, Victor Crowley. BJ shares his experiences filming the low budget slasher film in the Louisiana swamps while keeping the alligators out of the mess hall. He provides insight into the Jason-vs-Jason scene where Kane Hodder as Crowley faces off Derek Mears as Hawes. He even talks about filming the reshoots for Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem. It’s a wild and lively conversation with one of the rising stars of modern horror.
Dave chimes in with the Horror News of the Week starting off with the bizarre and confusing trailer for the upcoming release Fright Night 2, the sequel to the Colin Farrell reboot of the classic Fright Night film. None of the stars are returning but some of the dead characters are – Evil Ed. What is going on? Next up is another release of the classic from 1973, The Exorcist. This time in Blu-ray and with a 40th Anniversary annotation. American Horror Story: Coven announces its premiere date, October 9, 2013. There’s a Pet Semetary documentary in the works: Unearthed and Untold: The Path to Pet Semetary. Sharknado is in the news again this week. The film was recently released theatrically for a single midnight showing across the US in 200 theaters, but only draws a couple hundred thousand in return.
