Johnny Depp sat down with MTV to discuss his new movie RANGO and talked a little bit about his new role as a centuries old vampire Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton’s remake of the 1960s cult classic soap opera, DARK SHADOWS. In the interview Depp discusses his admiration for the life Jonathan Frid imbued into the immortal character and assures fans that he has no intentions of deviating too far away from the iconic figure portrayed in the original television program.
“What Jonathan Frid did with that character and that classic look he created, I find it very difficult to stray very far from that,” Depp explained.
Shooting for Tim Burton’s DARK SHADOWS will begin this spring and has an estimated release date of sometime in 2012. The film will also star Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, and Bella Heathcote.
Early Synopsis:
“A gothic-horror tale centering on the life of vampire Barnabas Collins and his run-ins with various monsters, witches, werewolves and ghosts. Based on the popular “Dark Shadows” TV series.”
