A Touch of Horror in Disney’s Frozen by guest writer, Jemma Joy
While I understand that we are all grounded by horror, sometimes you have to take a left turn and watch something… forbidden to horror fans. Today, we explore some of those films … and maybe, just maybe we might find some “horror” hidden in these essential Disney classics.
FROZEN
This is essential because it does have a vicious huge snowman named Marshmallow. He does throw Anna, Kristotoff, and Olaf off a cliff. He also grows razor sharp icicle teeth and spikes all over. Elsa does basically kill Anna two times. The first time, when they were little, Elsa hit Anna in the head. But thanks to the trolls, she becomes alive again. The second time, Elsa hits her in the heart. That time Anna actually does die and freeze. Elsa blocks out Anna for fifteen years. That causes her to go and fall in love with the first thing she sees, which is Hans. But then Hans also causes Anna to freeze. He leaves her to die without a fire with the door locked. And then he tries to kill Elsa, but then Anna saves her. Who knew that Frozen could be so upsetting when it’s a favorite kid’s movie? It’s my daughter’s favorite movie. When I watched it with her, I noticed all of this horror stuff. You should watch it one day. Hey, maybe you’ll like it.
FROZEN 2
Just like Frozen, Frozen 2 does have its parts that are fit for a horror fan. So in it, Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven go on another adventure that leaves Elsa and Olaf dead and Anna heartbroken. In order to stop the enraging storm that the elements created by Elsa waking them, the troll said that they have to find the truth about the past. So when Elsa goes and finds the truth, she sacrifices her life and freezes. Since Elsa made Olaf, and Elsa’s dead, Olaf dies. This is heartbreaking to Anna, since she lost her sister and her best friend who was like family, she basically doesn’t care what happens. Pretty morbid, huh? But there’s still more. Before that, when Anna, Elsa, and Olaf find the ship that their parents DIED on, Elsa realizes that why they died was because of her. With her ice magic abilities, she asked what happened before they died, and it shows her mother and father holding on to each other while they drown. Now you know what happens in Frozen 2. I recommend Frozen more, but you might like this better. Who knows? I have a couple of other classics, too.
