REVIEW:
More short films, kiddies! Today we have DARK PLANKTON, an animated short by Atton Paul.
A nice piece of psychedelia for your day, the film is the story of how the sea god Poseidon creates an army of underwater zombies, because he can. He’s a god, after all. He also really likes the film LOGAN’S RUN.
it’s pretty trippy, folks. I recommend avoiding certain substances I cannot name because I probably shouldnt name them when you watch this film. it will hurt your brain. You have been warned.
All joking aside, it’s a very interesting visual artwork. Lots of detail and moving pieces, which according to the artist were not done using a traditional animation program -they were all done in the old school, one frame a time, style.
There’s not a lot I can tell you about the film beyond that, you’ll just have to sort it out for yourself, but I can tell you a bit about the filmmaker.
Atton Paul is a collage artist, using any available media to create his works. Sometimes dioramas, sometimes still lifes and portraits, and sometimes animation. This appears to be an early work by Mr. Paul, but he has many other animations available on his Vimeo page.
Using my special short scale of one to five, five being awesome, I’m giving this film 4 plankton.
