Actress Lorynn York spoke with me for a Horrornews.net exclusive.
You have several films that are currently out and that are coming out. How did you become involved in “The Perfect Daughter?”
Lorynn York: “The Perfect Daughter” was an audition like any other audition. I probably go on at least two auditions a week. I booked the part after my first audition, I actually read for the lead girl but they booked me as the mean girl which is funny. I booked it and I was on set the next few days after that.
What was it like working with Director Brian Herzlinger?
Lorynn: Oh, it was wonderful. He is such a great director. Every single take we did, he let me do something fun. (Lorynn York plays Kalie in “The Perfect Daughter.”)
What was it like working on “Broken Promise,” you portray Hali. What was it like working on the film?
Lorynn: Ashley Scott plays my mom and Louis Mandylor played my kidnapper and Nick Baillie played my dad. They were one of my favorite cast to work with. They were so professional, they had the best advice for me as a young actress, they have been working in the industry for years and they’ve worked on amazing projects so their stories are greats.
How was it working with Director Nadeem Soumah (“Broken Promise”)
Lorynn: Nadeem is amazing. I just wrapped another one of his films called that’s going to be out in about seven or eight months. It’s called “Flight 192.” He rehired me on another movie which was wonderful and I am so lucky.
Why did you decide to become an actress?
Lorynn: I was a professional dancer as a child and when I say professional I danced with the Boston Ballet, I danced with the New York City Ballet. I went to the Chicago Institute for dancers which is in Upstate New York. I was really geared to be a professional dancer by the time I was twenty. I was really into classical ballet and with classical ballet comes something called artistry on stage where you have to act with your facial expressions and your body but you don’t speak.
Who inspires you personally and professionally?
Lorynn: Meryl Streep.
What can you tell us about working with Steve Guttenberg and Michael Winslow on the upcoming “2 Lava 2 Lantula!?”
Lorynn: I think that was the most fun that I’d ever had on set because of Steve Guttenberg and Michael Winslow. They, together were the funniest pair I have ever been around in my life.
What advice would you offer fellow actors/actresses?
Lorynn: Realistically you do need to go to Los Angeles at some point but you can start in your hometown. There are websites you can submit projects on, there is Mandy.com which is a short film submission website. You can go to the universities in your hometown and give your headshot to people. Everyone is always studying film. There is a website called actorsaccess.com where you can submit yourself on. Always be in classes. Study, study, study because it takes a lot of work.
