Faces Of Death Movie Review by Matt Boiselle.

Faces Of Death – directed by Daniel Goldhaber, written by Isa Mazzei & Daniel Goldhaber, and starring Barbie Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery & Josie Totah
Synopsis: A woman employed as a website content moderator, comes across a series of violent videos reproducing death scenes from a film.

Few horror films arrive carrying the weight of an infamous title quite like Faces of Death, but director Daniel Goldhaber manages to take the controversial name in a completely different—and surprisingly effective—direction. Rather than simply rehashing the exploitation shock value of the original, this reimagining delivers a tense, modern psychological horror thriller that’s as unsettling for its themes as it is for its imagery. The story centers on a woman working as a website content moderator who discovers a series of violent videos recreating death scenes from a mysterious film. As the investigation deepens, the line between digital horror and real-world danger begins to blur, creating a suspenseful mystery that keeps the audience engaged from beginning to end.

Barbie Ferreira delivers an outstanding lead performance, bringing both vulnerability and determination to a character forced to confront unimaginable horrors behind a computer screen. Ferreira makes the emotional weight of the story feel genuine, grounding the film even as it ventures into increasingly disturbing territory. It’s easily one of her strongest performances to date and gives the audience someone worth rooting for throughout the film. Dacre Montgomery is equally impressive, bringing an undeniable screen presence whenever he appears. Whether projecting quiet intensity or outright menace, Montgomery commands attention without ever feeling over-the-top. His performance adds another layer of unpredictability to the story, and his chemistry with Ferreira helps elevate several of the film’s strongest moments.

Daniel Goldhaber directs with confidence, balancing psychological tension with moments of brutal horror while avoiding the temptation to rely solely on graphic violence. Instead, Faces of Death builds suspense through atmosphere, paranoia, and the unsettling reality of the internet’s darkest corners. The film explores the emotional toll of consuming violent content and raises interesting questions about our fascination with true crime, viral media, and desensitization without ever losing sight of its primary goal: delivering an effective horror experience. Visually polished and supported by sharp pacing, the film steadily ratchets up the tension while rewarding patient viewers with several genuinely memorable sequences. The screenplay by Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber keeps the mystery compelling, allowing the psychological elements to carry just as much weight as the scares.

Faces of Death is more than just a recognizable title—it stands on its own as a gripping, intelligent horror thriller anchored by exceptional performances from Barbie Ferreira and Dacre Montgomery. Fans looking for a smart, modern horror film that blends suspense, mystery, and psychological dread should have this one high on their watchlist.
Faces Of Death will premiere on Shudder on July 10th – if it’s happened to have slipped you by so far, make sure to jump all over it now!
