Disclosure Day was classic Steven Spielberg. This was a chase movie with a fantastic reveal at the ending. The pay off footage was very emotional and got me choked up. Just, Wow!
The movie did have it flaws and I will get into that in a bit. What flaws it did have are not enough to keep audiences away. This wasn’t at the same level as Close Encounters of the Third Kind or E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, so don’t expect that from this film.
Emily Blunt was top notch. Her weather girl character made sense for where the story was eventually going to end. It actually reminded me of Dee Wallace’s disclosure in The Howling.
It was a journey of self discovery for both Blunt’s character, Margaret Fairchild and Josh O’ Conner’s character, Daniel Kellner. It was a fun ride ( and a bumpy ride ) watching them discover their pasts and how they are instrumental to the story.
I have my mixed reactions and can’t help but think that this movie would have been so much better if it would have taken place in the same cinematic universe as Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Okay, I have to get into spoilers now in order to drive my point.

This is my armchair booker opinion.
How cool would it have been if Fairchild’s childhood home was the same home as the Richard Dreyfus / Roy Neary home in Close Encounters. I feel that could have been the ultimate, “oh shit!” moment. Blunt’s character should have been Roy’s daughter from Close Encounters.
Imagine her walking into that house complete with the home made Devil’s Tower recreated. She would have been too young to know what her dad went through, so that could have played into her history and her discovery. Obviously, the journey would have been a completely different narrative, but it could have led to the same ending. Maybe even a more impactful ending.
They could have even explored an ending with the return of Richard Dreyfus as Roy. After watching Disclosure Day, and as enjoyable as it was, my find immediately started thinking of this possible alternative and how wonderful it could have been.
Regardless if you agree with me or not, Disclosure Day as it stands is a worthy addition to the Steven Spielberg collection.
