ON DEMAND: October 1st, 2024
(New York, NY) – September 24, 2024. Lion Heart Distribution is excited to announce the North American release of the highly anticipated horror/comedy ‘eVil Sublet,‘ on October 1st, across multiple platforms. eVil Sublet is the third feature film from independent director Allan Piper. The film stars viral video sensation Jennifer Leigh Houston and features the legendary Sally Struthers in her horror movie debut.
eVil Sublet tells the story of a couple who finds their dream apartment in New York’s East Village (a.k.a. “the eVil”). Who cares if it’s haunted if the rent is cheap? But when murderous ghosts come after them seeking more human lives, they must enlist the help of unusual friends to fight the evil.

eVil Sublet debuts on Amazon, Fandango at Home and Cable Systems across the country.
“Ghosts are scary, but in New York — and increasingly the whole country — paying rent can be even scarier. eVil Sublet asks just how far people will go to keep an affordable roof over their heads. America’s affordable housing crisis makes the movie’s premise all the more believable,” says director Allan Piper.
The movie that the New York Post defines as a ‘scary, sexy ride’ could not have been closer to reality during the filmmaking process. Piper shot eVil Sublet in the very apartment he shared with his wife and lead actress, Jennifer Leigh Houston.
“Our apartment really was haunted. Doors would fly open or slam shut on their own. Lights would go on and off. Sometimes a cold hand would touch me in the dark. There were voices. One night I was awakened by someone (or something) screaming ‘MOVE!’ in my ear. Not long after filming, we finally did move,” recalls Houston.
eVil Sublet is produced by Beth Ann Mastromarino, Emmy-nominee Chris Pearson (Dan Vs.), along with Houston, and Piper.
Sally Struthers appears in her first-ever horror movie, even though she avoids watching scary movies herself. “I’d rather be part of the scaring than be scared,” said Struthers. “Horror films frighten the poop out of me. And then they stay with me. ‘eVil Sublet’ is sure to leave creepy images permanently emblazoned in people’s minds!”
eVil Sublet has garnered notable acclaim in the film festival circuit, since it first premiered at the Coney Island Film Festival, where it received the Best Feature award. It was also honored as Top Feature Film at the Another Hole in the Head Film Festival. Additionally, Jennifer Leigh Houston was celebrated with the Best Actress in a Feature award at the HorrOrigins Film Fest for her outstanding performance, to name a few of the various accolades received. The film has won 11 awards so far.
Lion Heart Distribution CEO, Jerome Courshon states: “The filmmaking team behind this exceptional movie has crafted a terrific horror/comedy, sure to satisfy genre fans — and mainstream audiences as well. It’s fun, it delivers, and is satisfying, and the wicked social commentary sprinkled throughout is icing on this dessert!”
eVil Sublet was partly financed with the offer that supporters would have their faces turned into ghosts in the shadows and corners of the apartment. More than 200 ghostified faces are hidden throughout the movie.
“Having hundreds of hidden ghost faces does make the movie scarier,” says director Allan Piper. “People will jump in the middle of a scene when they suddenly realize there’s been a face peering out of the shadows the whole time. I wonder how many faces viewers can spot in the film!”
