Is It True? Did Brad Fuller Actually Say No Jason In The Next Friday the 13th Flick?

Before I left for work this morning I stumbled across the news that Brad Fuller had talked with the fine folks at CRAVE ONLINE and spilled the beans on a couple of Platinum Dunes projects, in particular THE PURGE 2 as well as the their rumored new entries into the rebooted FRIDAY the 13th and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET franchises.

When asked if they would be bringing Derek Mears back to sport the hockey mask again he replied as follows:

“I don’t know, because I do’’t know if we’re going to have Jason, I don’t know which Jason we’re going to have. I can tell you this: I love Derek Mears, I love working with him and he’s a dream so we’d be lucky to have him,”

To me this seems like a response purposely built to spark controversy and that is exactly what it did. He didn’t confirm there would be no Jason, he actually didn’t confirm a damn thing (other than the fact he likes Derek). All he stated was that he actually has no idea where they are heading, hell maybe The Little Mermaid will pay a visit.

The long and the short of it (in my opinion) is this. Platinum Dune is all about making money and there is no way in hell a Friday the 13th flick with no Jason is going to make a dime so while those involved may play around with the press and drop unspecific quotes for us to build dynamic headlines around I don’t believe there is any chance in hell that Jason won’t be in this new flick, if they ever actually make the damn thing.
