I had the honor of speaking with the talented Rebecca De Mornay. Rebecca De Mornay starred in Saint Clare.
Hello Rebecca, it is such an honor to speak to you. I was so overwhelmed watching this movie. It was beautiful. I loved Gigi so much. What made you want to take on the role, and what was it like inhabiting this character?
Rebecca De Mornay- I love that you were overwhelmed from the film. I think it is a great film for women. What drew me to the role was the script. The fact that it was about a character that was so influenced by Joan of Arc, and I am also influenced by Joan of Arc, and then to see this plot unfold, and have a female serial killer. It was amazing to me. I want to support the women making the film.
What was it like working with Bella Thorne, and the director Mitzi Peirone… Did you take anything away from each other while making Saint Clare?
Rebecca De Mornay- I can’t speak for them but I know that I have two daughters that are in their twenties. I am a fiercely maternal person. It was great being able to show a woman wanting to be supportive, and protective of the younger generation. It was important to see that onscreen. Bella Thorne was quiet and mysterious. There was an effortless kinship between us, and a sense of fun that I felt we both had. The future is forming with female directors and female stories. It certainly wasn’t when I first started over forty years ago. The exhilaration to be part of something new. There are so many films we have already seen or they have been remade. It is refreshing to see a movie like this (DOES THE CHEF’s Kiss). I love it!!! It is so refreshing.
It is refreshing to see strong women, and women who are not just running around, and tripping.
Rebecca De Mornay- Always running, and yes as the victim. A female DEXTER. It is not a show I have actually watched, but my daughter watched it and loved it.
That makes sense. DEXTER is a great show.
Rebecca De Mornay – We haven’t ever seen a female DEXTER so, that is pretty cool.
What advice or words of wisdom would Rebecca De Mornay offer to everyone?
Rebecca De Mornay- I would say to women that the men are not as tough as they think they are. Don’t take no for an answer, and keep going.
What are you working on next?
Rebecca De Mornay- I just finished two movies. I also finished a film opposite John Travolta.
I thank you so much. You are a force of nature. We loved you The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, and Lucifer… So many amazing films, and thank you for all you do. Thank you for being an inspiration.
Rebecca De Mornay – Thank you, Janel. That is what I want to be… An inspiration to women.
