The New York Asian Film Festival proudly announces the closing film of the NYAFF 18th edition as “The White Storm 2 Drug Lords” on July 14, 2019.
This announcement caps off a dynamic week of Hong Kong cinema events at NYAFF. Kicking off with martial arts movie master Yuen Woo-ping receiving the Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award on July 1st and then giving a master class on July 2nd before a very rare showing of “The Miracle Fighters” (1982). Stars Jade Leung and Michael Tong Man-Lung attended the screening of their bombastic action film “The Fatal Raid” (dir. by Jacky Lee) on July 5th.
But no Hong Kong lineup would be complete without the kind of hyperkinetic modern action that they are known for, and NYAFF 2019’s closing film is that in spades!
Veteran Hong Kong director and 2013 NYAFF guest Herman Yau has worked on more than a hundred films in various genres. His latest, the action-crime spectacular “White Storm 2 Drug Lords”, brings together two Hong Kong powerhouses, Andy Lau and Louis Koo, reuniting on screen after more than a decade. Trust us, it’s been worth the wait.
The event will take place at SVA Theatre (333 West 23rd Street) on Sunday, July 14th at 9 pm.
This year’s Hong Kong Panorama at the 18th New York Asian Film Festival is presented with the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York, the longest-standing partner and sponsor organization of the festival.

Synopsis: Andy Lau, Louis Koo and director Herman Yau (NYAFF 2013) come together in this dog-eat-dog epic of “antiheroic bloodshed.” A sequel in name only, The White Storm 2 Drug Lords is the 1990s gangster genre at its most dastardly and deadpan.
Clashing against each other like towering titans going on a rampage in the mean streets of Hong Kong, Koo and Lau play a deadly cat and mouse game of retaliation and retribution. Drugs are snorted, dead bodies are carted in and out of the frame culminating in a mind-blowing, subway station-wrecking car chase. Crime reigns in a world where tycoons are just as dirty as the triads.
