Living Dead Weekend Celebrates George A. Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD 40th Anniversary with Huge Cast Reunion


To celebrate this year’s 40th anniversary of George A. Romero’s horror classic DAWN OF THE DEAD, the Living Dead Museum is hosting the Living Dead Weekend to be held in the Monroeville Mall, the primary filming location of the film. This 3 day horror film convention scheduled for June 8-10th, 2018 features a huge reunion of 40 original cast and crew members. The weekends festivities include Celebrity Autograph Signing Sessions, Movie Location Tours, Professional Photo Opportunities with the celebrities, Celebrity Question and Answer Panels, Social Gatherings, Costumed Cosplay, Exhibits, Vendors and Artists selling goods.

This event will be a heartfelt tribute to a man loved by so many fans around the world. Known as the Godfather of Modern Horror and the creator of the modern zombie, George A. Romero sadly passed away in July of last year. On Friday afternoon, a tribute ceremony remembering Mr. Romero with an unveiling of a bronze bust will be held in the mall. Designed and sculpted by Christian Stavrakis the bust depicts Mr. Romero from 1978, the year of DAWN OF THE DEAD and is being crowd funded by fans. The bust dedication ceremony is open to the public and the bust will remain a permanent memorial in the mall.
The entire event staff has a deep love and appreciation for the film’s of Mr. Romero. Pittsburgh born Kevin Kriess created the Living Dead Museum and the subsequent Living Dead Weekend festivals to celebrate Pittsburgh’s role in creating the modern horror film and more specifically the zombie monster archetype that is so prominent in popular culture. Noted film historian, Lawrence DeVincentz travels from the Charlotte, NC area to host the Film Location Tours. Fan and historian, Amanda Rejman who moved to Pittsburgh from upstate New York because of her love for DAWN OF THE DEAD produces this and other special events for the museum. Lifelong DAWN OF THE DEAD fan, Darren Sargeant serves as the media producer and does most of his work from his home in the United Kingdom but visits for the event.
The Living Dead Weekend: Monroeville is being held in the major filming location of the movie DAWN OF THE DEAD, the Monroeville Mall. Entire sections of the historic shopping mall including a courtyard and multiple storefronts have been converted into a massive convention floor space to host the event. For the 40th Anniversary, 40 Celebrity Guests from the film will attend, one to signify each year. Those include lead actors Ken Foree, Gaylen Ross, and Scott Reiniger along with Tom Savini, Christine Romero, Richard France, John Amplas, and many more including Executive Producer of TV’s THE WALKING DEAD, Greg Nicotero. All 40+ celebrities will be signing autographs, hosting Q&A panels and participating in photo sessions with fans. There are guided Film Location Tours being held throughout the weekend with detailed walks through the mall including exclusive behind the scenes access and reenactments. Official DAWN OF THE DEAD products, event exclusive merchandise, horror crafts, spooky décor and collectibles will be available from a host of vendors from around the country.

Everyone of all ages is invited to celebrate all things zombie, the works of George A. Romero, and especially the 40th Anniversary of DAWN OF THE DEAD, where it all happened, Monroeville, PA. Visitors from all around the world are expected. Daily admission starts at $20 a person with discounts for weekend passes. Children under 10 are admitted for free with a ticketed adult.
