Interview: Author Axelle Carolyn

AUTHOR: AXELLE CAROLYN
BOOK: It Lives Again! Horror Movies in the New Millennium

Axelle Carolyn came by horrornews.net to talk to us a little about her upcoming book, It Lives Again! Horror Movies in the New Millennium.

We gave her the who, what, when, where, and why about the book and she told us all we wanted to know. Then we threw in the how because she’s just so damn hot! Check out what she had to say!

Who wrote the book?
Well, me. Axelle Carolyn. I’ve worked for years as a film reporter and critic for Fangoria, IGN, SFX and a few others. I’m also an actress, and in both my careers, I mostly specialize in horror. My husband Neil Marshall wrote the foreword, and Masters of Horror creator Mick Garris wrote a brilliant introduction.

What is the book about?
The recent wave of horror films. The book starts in 2000 and I’ve looked at the various trends (torture films, remakes, Asian etc) and tried to see where they originated and why. I also analysed hundreds of films – foreign or US, blockbusters or indies – and interviewed dozens of people

Why did you write this book?
Because no one else had! And I believe this new wave deserves to be analyzed and treated seriously. A lot of really good films have come out since 2000, and they deserve to be pointed out.

When will it be released into stores?
In the UK, I believe the date is now late November. In the US I’m not sure… It’s a different distributor, so it may well be next year sometime.

Where can we find it?
Right now, online.
www.telos.co.uk
You can pre-order it now, it’ll be the easiest way to find it if you’re in the US. We’re hoping to develop the page on the website to give people a better idea of what they’re buying. But if you’re a horror fan, I’m fairly sure you won’t be disappointed.

Can you give us a little sneak peek as to what to expect?
A year-by-year overview of the best (and sometimes worst) releases and the main trends. I wanted the book to take its subject matter very seriously, but also to be easy and fun to read, so you won’t find big theoretical analyses or words over 5 syllables. Clear and precise, but not pretentious, I guess…

I’ve also compiled quotes from the hundreds of interviews I’ve conducted over the years, or fresh interviews I’ve done just for the book. So you’ll find new quotes from people like Eli Roth (Hostel), Stuart Gordon (Dagon), Mick Garris and Neil Marshall obviously, Alexandre Aja (High Tension), Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (Inside), Mike Mendez (The Convent), Ryan Schifrin (Abominable), Adam Green (Hatchet), Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2), Jaume Balaguero (REC), James Wan (Saw), James Gunn (Slither), Angela Bettis (May), and many others…

Thanks so much Axelle for stopping by and giving us a piece! :)
I am really looking forward to reading this book. Also, stay tuned for a more indepth interview coming up with Axelle Carolyn soon. But for now make sure you go to www.telos.co.uk
and pre-order your copy today!

Stay twisted,
Dai
