MGM had filed for bankruptcy a while back and it seemed like they would be out of the movie making business for quite some time. It was a shame really because they were working on some really great projects and held the rights to the James Bond franchise. They received a $500 million cash infusion however and are getting some projects back on track.
Before you get to excited though you should know it’s mostly sequels and remakes. They want to reboot Robocop with a remake and also do a Poltergeist 4. I would be curious what they do with a new poltergeist movie since most of the cast from the originals have passed away including Carol Ann. Could be interesting however. They also want to reboot Mr. Mom (WHY!?!?) and a Hercules project. The only original film slated is the co-financing of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters with Paramount. With this cash infusion though we should keep an eye on MGM. There could be some interesting things coming from that studio again.
