10 FT Down Movie Review by Matt Boiselle
10 FT Down – directed and written by Alan Williams, and starring Bryn Booth, Austin Buchanan and Bradford Trojan
Synopsis: In a late-night bar, two complete strangers descend into a spiral of madness, and the question remains of who is manipulating whom in his captor/captive film.
You’d think that a quickie drop-in at the local watering hole wouldn’t lead to too many problems, would you? One, maybe two highly-powered cocktails to wrap up a rotten day at work then you’re on your way…but as horror fans we all know deep-down that the mundane in this genre is anything but, and what may present as simple can be as confusing as a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn’t there.
In Director Alan Williams’ ultra-brain-bending thriller, “10 FT Down”, what perceives itself to be a mapped out psychological twister becomes anything but, forcing the viewer to tighten up their brain-buckets and really think when watching this one. The movie acts as a follow up prequel to “8000 FT Up” and centers around Lawrence (Buchanan), who meets a very mysterious woman (Booth) at a dive bar, then wakes up to find himself held hostage by not only the woman, but her twin sister (also played by Braun). Their savage approach to keeping their latest prisoner in line starts off as brutal and unforgiving, but as time marches on, the twin sister’s methods begin to vary, and start to fracture their own relationship, bringing even more confusion and turbulence to the already volatile situation.
If the already devolving relationship between the sisters doesn’t derail their plans enough, Lawrence starts to uncover some details about the siblings that will certainly muck things up even further…but is what we’re really seeing the truth, or are things about to get even more complicated – and how about us poor viewers? We’re stuck dead in the middle of this thing trying to figure out what’s happening as well! The movie becomes so much more than your typical hostage display – one of the sisters wants to enslave this man’s mind as well, and the repercussions can be more damaging than any simple physical injury that can be inflicted. Your brain is going to have to put in some overtime on this one, and it’s a refreshing change as opposed to just the “your my prisoner and I’m going to beat the snot out of you” mindset – there are twists and turns with the pacing and story progression, and combined with the fantastic performances, “10 FT Down” is one of those films that will have your head-scratching finger quite busy – this one’s well-worth a watch, so make sure to hunt it down when it becomes available.
The film will be available on UK Digital on April 13th, and is already currently available in the US on Amazon Prime, Fandango At Home and Roku.
