The Yeti Movie Review by Matt Boiselle

The Yeti – directed and written by Gene Gallerano and William Pisciotta, and starring Brittany Allen, Corbin Bernsen and William Sadler

Synopsis: When an oil tycoon and adventurer go missing in northern Alaska, a search team is assembled to find them, but little do they know that the real danger is what is stalking them from afar.

Meriell Sunday, Sr. (Bernsen) and his colleague, Hollis Bannister (Sadler) have inexplicably gone missing in the most remote area of Alaska, and it’s now up to their children (Allen & Eric Nelsen) round up a posse of sorts and take to the extreme cold to locate their parents. However the elements turn out to be the least of their issues, as their problems start to multiply with missing supplies and mysterious footprints in the snow…who or what is tracking them, and are they simply prey for a predator who has no qualms about shedding innocent blood?

The entirety of the film relies heavily on psychological dread and atmospheric frights to stun the audience – there is a ton of slow-moving dialogue here, but it does come with a purpose as it’s a ramping up technique to what ultimately will be a shattering latter stage of this presentation. All performances were fantastic, with Allen & Bernsen snagging gold stars in my opinion – their conveyances of each’s respective stories was not only well-written, but executed in such a fashion that you’d take their word for gospel when spoken. Practical FX are also in a standout display, and thank the heavens for that, especially when the titanic snow-monster finally makes his on-screen appearance. Every tense tactic is employed to drive your nerves through the roof and whiten your knuckles before clubbing you right between the eyes in disquieting form.

When the credits rolled and my bones finally began to thaw, I could definitely recommend “The Yeti” to those looking for an old school creature feature set in the ways of its ancestors – watch it when it becomes available, as you will not be disappointed.

The Yeti will release in AMC Theaters on April 4th and 8th, and then on digital services on April 10th.
