Marginalia Movie Review by Matt Boiselle
Marginalia – directed & written by Mark Beal, and starring Jessica Bell, Seraluna Sanchez & Jessica Lemmons
Marginalia, from director Mark Beal, is a really fun little horror film that mixes demons, witchcraft, dark secrets and… killer rabbits. Yes, you read that right.
The story follows Sister Trista, who travels to Karnstein Abbey to serve as a mourner at the funeral of the recently deceased abbess. Naturally, things aren’t exactly what they seem, and she soon finds herself uncovering some very dark secrets. I had a really good time with this one. It’s weird, creepy, darkly funny and doesn’t take itself too seriously. The whole combination of gothic atmosphere, religious horror and completely unexpected elements like the killer rabbits makes Marginalia stand out. It’s the kind of offbeat horror that knows exactly what it wants to be, and I really appreciated that. If you’re looking for something a little different from the usual horror fare, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a shot.
A fun, strange and surprisingly entertaining little horror film. Definitely worth checking out!
