Emerging filmmaker Ten-Headed Skeleton announces the release of SUSURRUS, an ambitious independent horror film inspired by the unsettling internet phenomenon known as Backrooms. Drawing tonal comparisons to the claustrophobic tension of Cube and the existential mystery of The Twilight Zone episode “Five Characters in Search of an Exit,” SUSURRUS expands the concept into a layered, multiverse-driven cinematic experience.
Written, directed, and produced by Ten-Headed Skeleton, SUSURRUS follows a group of women who each enter different buildings—only to find themselves trapped within the same vast, empty structure. Inside this shifting labyrinth, reality fractures: some individuals are inexplicably returned home, others are cast into entirely different universes, and some remain trapped for what feels like centuries.
What begins as a minimalist horror premise evolves into a hidden multiverse narrative. The film presents interconnected glimpses into alternate realities, where versions of the same characters exist under radically different circumstances. One such thread follows a character who perishes in a frozen wilderness after speaking about Ouija boards—only for another version of him to reappear later in a sun-scorched setting, transformed into a predatory force. These overlapping realities reveal a chilling truth: not all versions of a person share the same fate—or morality.
“SUSURRUS is to the Backrooms what Poseidon Adventure is to Titanic,” says Ten-Headed Skeleton. “It uses a familiar concept as a gateway into something much bigger—an exploration of parallel worlds, identity, and the unknown forces that connect them.”
Blending psychological horror with experimental storytelling, SUSURRUS challenges viewers to piece together its fractured narrative while confronting the terror of infinite realities.
