REVIEW:

More short films, kiddies! Today have yet another short film by Andrea Ricca, this one called SPACE MONSTER.

I’ve reviewed quite a few of these shorts from this filmmaker and I tend to like them all. The films are silent, by which I mean no dialogue, and are basically one-man show productions. The editing, animation, directing, et al are credited to Andrea Ricca.

Now, some of these are better than others. One thing I noticed on this one is the CGI animation. In most of the films I’ve seen by this filmmaker, the CGI characters are placed in the real world against an actor and the effect is pretty decent.

In this film, however, with the exception of the actor (in this case a lovely actress named Ilaria Lamberth) and a vehicle, almost the entire film appears to take place in an animated world. It’s very ambitious, and I can appreciate the amount of work it must have taken. Unfortunately, it does come off a bit cartoonish.  The seams for the green screen work are really obvious and it’s almost impossible to suspend disbelief.

That being said, I still really enjoy this filmmaker’s work. The films are never more than two or three minutes long and always manage to tell a complete story in that short time. The creature designs are always inspired and creative, and this film does give us a very interesting creature.

So using my special short scale of one to five, five being awesome, I’m giving this film 3 spaceships.
