SYNOPSIS:

The most original, groundbreaking sitcom to ever hit television is back with a whole new level of hilarity and outrageousness! Join Adam (Adam Green, Frozen), Joe (Joe Lynch, Knights of Badassdom), Laura (Laura Ortiz, The Hills Have Eyes), Corri (Corri English, Devil May Call), Oderus Urungus (GWAR’s Dave Brockie), and Lance Rockett (Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider) as they deal with zombies, werewolves, a suicidal horror icon, a cursed videotape, a psychotic 11-year-old girl and so much more.

REVIEW:

It feels like its been quite awhile since I’ve dug into the Holliston Series. Now looking back, it’s actually been 2 years since reviewing the show’s debut season. So like most TV style series, you tend to forget about about the dynamics and premise of the characters. I was excited when I heard that there was a bluray release, as I’ve never been able to sit thru many “online” sessions when it comes to TV series. Perhaps its something about the need to kick back on a couch and experience things in high def big screen. Call me old fashion but that’s how I roll.

Without further ado, let’s talk about season 2. All the usual characters are back for another round with a synergy that really works and a comedic timing that feels as professional as any syndicated TV series. The plus here is that the show is rooted towards horror fans and thus centers that fact in the middle of most of the show’s situations. We even get the occasional “false intro” with plenty of blood curdling mishap (I love to use the word mishap)

Now for reporting sake, I wanted to quickly bring readers up to speed on the production. “Holliston” is a sitcom style horror show brain child-ed by Adam Green (writer of the series) who also stars in the show. The show is a FEARnet original show that strangely feels like a horror version of Big Bang Theory. Hence the intellect of Big Bang, its comedic style has got a rhythm that follows similar suite. You can’t help but love these characters as 2 single guys and 2 single hotties that play off each other. Adam Green plays “Adam” with Joe Lynch playing the role of roommate “Joe” (not a bit stretch there).

The 2 of them are consummate horror fans with too much time on their hands and a cable show that they frequent at a cable access station (where they are also employed). Their boss, none other than the weirdly cross dressing rock star madman Dee Snider, basically plays himself playing a local singer in a Van Halen cover band “Diver Down”, aka Lance Rockett. Dee is show’s highlight as a frequent appearing extrovert who somehow is owner of this cable facility. Hotties Corri English plays the role of “Corri” with  Laura Ortiz playing “Laura”. Needless to say, there is a on-off synergy between the ladies and the 2 struggling filmmakers.

Season 2 picks up with the trend of episodes centered around (usually) horror icons and guests. In first episode we get to see actor Kane Hodder (Jason regular) as a anxiety-suffered actor who cant face being replaced in the film “Freddy vs Jason”. It’s the kind of humor that we as a genre community just love to see being addressed.

Special note goes out to the now deceased actor Dave Brockie who plays imaginary character Oderus Urungus. He will certainly be missed!

In episode review, there are alot of great themed episodes this round. For starters, a serial killer scare, a father and son reunion with Lance Rockett, a werewolf scare induced by a hospitalized David Naughton, Laura’s parents visit and a whole lot more. It’s worth noting that this season bluray also contains the hilarious Christmas special episode.

It’s too bad that this series isn’t syndicated to a TV network as its well deserved and works well as an offbeat sitcom. The synergy this round and the comedic timing is much more polished than last season making for a really funny and horror based series that is well worth the purchase. I’m really hoping that this show continues on for a season 3. In the meantime, repeated viewings are recommended once you’ve made your way thru all 11 episodes.
