Interview: Lee Vervoort (Guntown)

What can our HorrorNews fans expect from Gun Town ?

Fans can expect a new approach in horror with a western theme involved, along with a picture in high-definition.

Why did you decide to go with the combination of horror/western?

My friends who own the western town have dreamed of making a movie there for years, so it seemed the way to go. Plus it gave us the different approach to the horror genre.

Do you have a favorite scene from the movie?

A favorite scene…hm…I’d say the “bar brawl” with all the kids. I told them to “improv” the scene and have fun with it, so that’s what they did. The “Dr. Sawbones” scene gets an honorable mention.

How long did it take to film Gun Town ?

It took a grand total of 7 days to shoot this film.

How hot did it get during the filming?

How hot? It was so hot…everyone melted twice a day. Ok, actually it was around the 90’s. I’m proud of my cast and crew for sticking with me for that reason alone.

Are there any movies that really inspire you to direct?

It would be hard to pick just one, I guess all movies that I have ever enjoyed have inspired me.

How did you get involved in the film industry?

I just got off my ass one day and decided to go to a film school audition. It grew from there. (my career, not my ass)

Any interesting off camera experiences during the film shoot?

Yes, Thursday we got rained out, so that evening we decided to have some fun as one of my actors grabbed a guitar and sang Scene 51. It was 4 pages long.

Where can fans see Gun Town?

Fans can view GT starting 12-1-09 by ordering a DVD from Amazon.com or download. I also hope to have it available in rental facilities.

What’s next for Lee Vervoort?

Hopefully my other film “Quiet Town” sometime next year. We’ll see how it goes.

Thank you again for your time. Don’t hesitate to contact me with any inquiries. Have a great day.
